Skincare products boast a lot of claims these days. Some of these products however, contain substances that may not agree with your skin and could cause problems. Before purchasing one of the many beauty products on the market, check to see if they contain any chemicals from our list below.
1. Alcohols: Alcohol is a drying agent. If you have dry skin, alcohol will make your skin feel even drier. Alcohols go by many names so look closely at the label for words ending in -ol. Drying agents will further strip your skin and hair of necessary moisture.
2. Parabens: These substances are found in many beauty and skincare products. It is not a substance that people take the time to recognize but people do have allergies to them. the substance itself is added for shelf life-to avoid growth of bacteria in the product. With so many ingredients you wouldnt know if you were sensitive to parabens necessarily so try to stay away from them anyway.
3. Fragrances: Everyone wants to smell good. Plenty of skin care products contain fragrances to give them a nice scent. Unfortunately, these fragrances can cause skin irritations. A fragrance is created by combining chemicals. Any one of those chemicals can cause an adverse reaction on you face or elsewhere on your body.
4. Phthalates: The ph is silent. These chemicals are commonly added to plastics to make them more flexible. It is also strangely enough found in a variety of cosmetics, soap, lotions and nail polish. The substance is toxic to animals and can cause birth defects.
5. Dyes: Dyes give skincare products their color. Even if it is a beige color, you can bet that there was a dye added to your product. People with sensitive skin develop dryness and itching from various dyes. Try natural products that are dye free.
It is a little known fact that skincare products are not monitored by the FDA. We place our skin in the hands of these manufacturers when we buy their products. It is up to us to take our health into our own hands.
The next time you shop for skincare items, read the label carefully. This goes for all natural products as well. Eliminate as many of the above chemicals as possible from your products as possible. If the good substances are listed at the bottom of the ingredient list, chances are there are only trace amounts in the product and not enough to be of any benefit
