Oh, don’t worry – one of our big summer blockbuster movies didn’t let me down.
No, it was the big ‘Sold Out‘ sign hanging over the ticket seller’s head that burst my bubble tonight.
My eighteen year old wanted to go see The Dark Knight. I had little interest, mostly because seeing handsome Heath Ledger as the Joker in all of the TV commercials was kind of grossing me out. But, an air conditioned movie theater on a muggy Saturday night is better than my too warm apartment so I agreed to jump in the car and race to town for an early evening show.
It has been a long time since I’ve tried to see a big flick on opening weekend and I totally forgot how crazy the theaters can be.
We ended up seeing Hellboy II. Eh. It was good enough. Just not the sort of movie I’d usually pay to see.
Moral to the story? Buy your tickets in advance and show up early. (Like Alice did!)

Oh Kelly, some people laugh at how anal I am about getting to movies early, avoiding line ups, etc. But whatever – we got good seats in plenty of time to see The Dark Knight last night.
Great movie!
Oh, my son went to the midnight showing and got in on the Opening night of The Dark Knight here in Vancovuer. He wants to go again, so I will probably go with him when the crowds have died down.
We saw Journey to the Center of the Earth last night in 3D – it was about a 7 out of 10. Loved a lot of the visuals, and breathtaking when they were falling (which happened often), felt too real…
Enjoy your summer!
Diana
Right in Vancouver…the theatres are always crazy. But if you venture to the ‘burbs and try a matinee, it’s probably a lot better, Diana. Or you can wait.
We did a late matinee yesterday and it wasn’t too bad (but buying tickets early helped)…not sure why I said “last night” in my previous comment. But when we were leaving, there was a HUGE line up for the 6:30 show.
I’m so sorry you missed out. I thought it was a decent enough movie. I REALLY thought that Heath Ledger did an amazing job in the role of Joker. DH preferred Nicholson. I prefer Keaton as Batman still but thought the movie was very entertaining. It was well worth paying to see in a theater though and I don’t say that about many movies.
I like both Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. The portrayals were quite different, but Ledger certainly borrowed some stuff from Nicholson.
I have to say, the nurse’s uniform was priceless. Very good! Perfect comic book stuff.
DH also prefers Michael Keaton, but I always remember him as “Mr. Mom” and he never seemed quite right to me. I also like how they make Bruce Wayne more of a bad boy / player in this series…but he didn’t get as much chance to do this in this 2nd movie. But I’m probably biased due to my crush on Christian Bale.
I loved the nurse’s outfit too lol! I thought he was amazing. Very sad though.
Had to come back and post an update.
Sean and I finally saw Batman last night. It was a good movie – but it sure was disturbing. I know I shouldn’t be surprised at all, I had plenty of forwarning.
I guess I wish I didn’t have this view of Heath Ledger as my last memory of him.
