Nervous about Your Job Interview? Try These Tips

Job InterviewGoing on a job interview is alot like going to the dentist. Anyone who has gone to one will tell you that they were nervous at the beginning but were relieved after it was over. These feelings are very common, even among the most experienced professionals.

If you are confident and well prepared for the interview, then there is no reason to be nervous. Good preparation is the key to success.

Your Checklist

There are a few things you should do before going on a job interview. To begin with, conduct research on the company. Study the company’s history, their products, and the services they offer. Learn how you can fit into their organization, and visualize the types of questions you could be asked.

If possible, ask a friend or other experienced person to conduct a mock interview to help you prepare. Also, prepare an honest resume. You’ll need to highlight your skills and experiences and mention your academic qualifications.

Have your resume, pen and paper together in a briefcase or folder and keep a handkerchief in your pocket just in case you need it. Get a good night’s sleep before the interview so that you are fresh and alert.

Enjoy The Experience

ResumeEdge.com: Get a Resume that Gets Results!Think positively when entering the interview room. Even if you do not get the job, think of it as a learning experience – it is natural to go through a number of job interviews before you land a job.

Even if you have had a negative experience during a particular interview, do not get depressed, just learn from it and move on. Keep your mind fresh and focused on the questions that are being asked. Do not try to bluff your way out of questions you are not sure how to answer. Be honest.

Attending interviews (and doing well!) is a mind game. Keep yourself calm and focused and you will be fine. You can do it!

How to Make Homemade Wine

If you’re a wine enthusiast, making your own wine is more than likely a dream you’d love to fulfill. The growing popularity of wine has unleashed a wide variety of methods and equipment designed for home wine makers that you can use to make your own private label wine.

Basic wine making equipment can be purchased online or at any home brewing or home winemaking supply shop in your city. You’ll also be able to find a list (including prices) of all the supplies you’ll need to get your wine making venture off the ground. Click here for a homemade wine-making kit: It includes everything you need to get started.

Purchasing a basic wine making kit can be much less expensive than buying the equipment individually. You can start out with a kit and then add the extra gadgets as you progress.

Some wine making starter kits include a hydrometer, sample jar and a crown capper or wine corker. Others include a blend of grape concentrate, grape juice and sugar as well as yeast, stabilizer and clarifier. If the kit you choose doesn’t contain oak chips and elderberries, you may want to purchase these items separately.

When you’ve got the equipment and have an idea of what it takes to make a good bottle of wine, the next step is to choose the grapes. Your location will depend on the types of grapes you can grow or purchase.

But whether your goal is to make an inviting bottle of Chardonnay or a full-bodied bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, you should be able to find a variety of the grapes you’ll need.

The grapes you choose should be insect-free and clean. Carefully inspect the grapes and discard any that appear to be rotten or discolored. Stems left on the grapes can cause your wine to have a bitter taste, so be sure to remove them.

Wine making methods may seem complicated, but you’ll find lots of simple step-by-step instructions to help you enter the world of others who choose to make their own wines.

Your own private label wines make wonderful gifts and produce a sense of self-fulfillment. You may like it so much that you decide to make wine making your life’s work – like thousands of others who started out with one little wine making kit…just like you.

Surgery to Correct Snoring – Is It Necessary?

SnoringWe talked about He Snores: How to Get Him to Stop Snoring a short while ago. If the problem is poses health risks, doctors may recommend surgery. But before you send your guy for a serious operation, consider some things first.

There are several different types of surgical methods for the treatment of snoring. Some of these methods are far more invasive and result in a more difficult recovery than others.

Of the less invasive procedures, somnoplasty is receiving a little bit of good press. This procedure is minimally invasive by comparison to other surgical solutions. Somnoplasty is an outpatient procedure in which thermal energy is used to reduce and stiffen the soft tissue that can obstruct or vibrate in the upper airway.

The vibrations are often the cause of snoring. By eliminating the vibrations, snoring will lessen in severity and frequency as the result of these treatments. The pain involved in this procedure is limited and the recovery is often very short.

If your health is seriously at risk by problems such as sleep apnea and you’ve attempted and failed the traditional treatments, your doctor may recommend an uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, or UPPP.

This is a procedure in which the obstructions in your airway are removed. This may also include the removal of tonsils and adenoids in order to minimize obstructions to your airway.

This treatment is not a something that should be taken lightly. Only about 60% of those who have this surgery would be willing to go through it again. The recovery period is about three weeks and involves a small degree of discomfort when swallowing. UPPP is not hugely successful with a high percentage of those who have the surgery continuing to snore afterwards.

A more invasive surgery to assist those with serious problems resulting from snoring is nasal reconstructive surgery. This is essentially plastic surgery that reconstructs – not only the bone structure of the nasal cavity – but also removes soft tissue that may be limiting your ability to take in the proper amount of air. This procedure requires a fair amount of recovery time and should be considered with some degree of caution, since it is considered a major surgery.

As a last ditch effort, some who suffer from snoring problems will resort to a tracheotomy for relief. This is a frightening procedure to undergo and highly invasive. With a tracheotomy, a tube is inserted into the windpipe in order to assist with breathing. This is not a preferred method of treatment and will in many ways become a new way of life for those who choose to undergo this particular procedure.

It’s important that you make a concentrated effort whenever possible to avoid the surgical procedures mentioned above since all surgery carries some degree of risk no matter how ‘minor’ the surgery is supposed to be. Discuss your options candidly and seriously with your physician before deciding that surgery is the only answer for you.

Dealing with Urinary Tract Infections – Relieve the Pain & Get On with Life

If you’ve ever suffered the pain and discomfort of a urinary tract infection, you’ll know it is absolutely no fun. And if you let it go untreated for any period of time, it can become downright debilitating.

A Few Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Facts:

  • Many women suffer from frequent UTIs. Nearly 20 percent of women who have a UTI will have another, and 30 percent of those will have yet another. Of the last group, 80 percent will have recurrences.
  • UTI’s are the second most common type of infection in the body.
  • Research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests that one factor behind recurrent UTIs may be the ability of bacteria to attach to cells lining the urinary tract.

Signs That You Might Have a Urinary Tract Infection

One thing to note is that not everyone who has a UTI will have symptoms, but chances are they will and they include:

  • Frequent urge to urinate
  • Painful, burning feeling during urination
  • Pain even when not urinating
  • Uncomfortable pressure above the pubic bone
  • An overall feeling of being tired, shaky, or washed out

Urinary Tract Infection Treatments

  • UTIs are most commonly treated with antibacterial drugs, which usually provide relief in just a few days.
  • Severely ill patients with kidney infections may be hospitalized until they can take fluids and needed drugs on their own. Kidney infections generally require several weeks of antibiotic treatment

Extra Tips for Women to Avoid Infections:

  • Drink plenty of water every day.
  • Urinate when you feel the need; don’t resist the urge to urinate.
  • Wipe from front to back to prevent bacteria around the anus from entering the vagina or urethra.
  • Urinate and cleanse the vaginal area after intercourse.
  • Take showers instead of tub baths.
  • Avoid using feminine hygiene sprays and scented douches, which may irritate the urethra.

Protective vs. Over-Protective Parents: Which Are You?

Are You an Over-Protective Parent?I am not a perfect parent. I’ve never claimed to be and am pretty darned sure that I’m never going to be. But I do strive to learn from my mistakes and shortcomings and hope to ultimately raise happy, well-adjusted and successful children.

As I evaluate my own parenting and look to other parents for guidance, I see a huge issue amongst so many parents today. In our ultimate goal to raise our children in safe and nurturing environments, many of us have taken this to the extreme. We’ve gone from being protective of our children to being over-protective and I wonder what effect that will have on them in the future.

When we were kids, most of us experienced a lot more freedom and the ability to grow through the experience of independence.

We walked to school on our own. We walked instead of getting a lazy ride in mom’s minivan).

We rode a bus, walked or took our bikes to the store.

We didn’t have cell phones to give our parents a false sense of security.

Some parents claim it’s because of the state of the world today. Somehow we’ve come to the mistaken conclusion that the world is a more dangerous place and we need to protect our children. We hear more about abductions and violent crimes, but are they really on the rise?

Or are we simply programmed to be scared?

The media bombards us with and focuses on stories of people being hurt, robbed and children being stolen. Product creators and sellers sell us every little gadget they can to allow us to be more safe.

Have look at this article from the National Crime Prevention Council for a little more look at the real picture.

Our kids need to be raised in a world where they have confidence and the ability to do things for themselves. They need to have common sense to deal with difficult and potentially dangerous situations. But we’re stifling our kids and keeping them from learning these important life skills.

Each child is different and as parents, we are the best judge of knowing when our children are ready for certain milestones, but start offering more independence where you can. Whether it’s your preschooler dealing with a difficult situation with a child on a playground or your preteen daughter wanting to take a trip to the local mall, try to let go a little. Give your kids space, but keep the lines of communication open so they come to you when they need help.

There’s really nothing wrong with protecting our children, but when protection turns to over-protection, it might be time to step back and decide what’s really best for our kids.

Traveling With Your Nursing Baby This Summer

Nursing BAbyNow that the days are getting warmer you might be thinking about planning your summer trip to the beach. The good news is that traveling with a breastfed baby is super easy. Pack a few diapers and toys and go. Here are a few tips on traveling with your little one in tow.

  • Nurse during takeoff. If you’re flying to your destination, nurse the baby during takeoff to make him more comfortable. You might want to bring along a baby sling so you can tuck baby in – this will also keep him close if there is any turbulence.
  • Stay hydrated. It’s easy to become dehydrated when you’re traveling. Keep that reusable bottle of water close by so you can drink to thirst.
  • Take frequent breaks. Baby and mom will be happier if you take frequent nursing breaks. Don’t try to cram too much into one day. Respect baby’s nap schedule. Overtired, overstimulated babies will be unhappy and difficult to nurse and settle down.
  • Bring along some nursing clothing. Nursing a baby discreetly while sitting poolside can be a bit
challenging, but thankfully there are some cute nursing swimsuits available to make it easy peasy! Nursing bra tank tops are also awesome for trips since they have a built in bra – great for those hot summer days, or you can use them as a layering piece. Being able to quickly nurse discreetly in public places makes for a much happier trip.

Have fun!

Forget the Photo Album – Make a Scrapbook

No photo album

Once upon a time, we saved our precious memories in a simple photo album that simply displayed our photos. The photo album has come a long way. Now it’s evolved into a scrapbook – a memory holder that not only displays your photos, but does it in a unique way that projects a theme for the reader and tells a story for generations to come.

Scrapbooking Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated

Scrapbooking can be done in a simple manner, adding a note or two here in conjunction with an image so that those viewing the picture can understand more about it. Or, it can be elaborate – with stickers, designer paper and specially-cut edges, and entire scrapbooks centered around an individual theme.

Instead of parents putting photos in a box to place neatly into a photo album on a rainy day, scrapbooking devotees have formed exclusive clubs for their obsession – some even hosting overnight parties and entire vacations reserved for nothing but scrapbooking and socializing!

With many old photo albums, the pictures weren’t displayed in any organized manner. But now, with themed pages, you can decorate your scrapbook in a myriad of ways. You can have scrapbooks reserved for vacations, sporting events, holidays, individual members of your family, weddings, and more.

Instead of just looking at a page with pictures of the family at the beach, your scrapbook can include memories of that trip, with specifics like where it was taken, when, and any funny or sentimental stories you’d like to add.

Designing Your Pages

How you design your themed pages is totally up to you. You can use pre designed paper to display the photos onto or design one of your own. You can matte the photos to make them stand out if you want or you can just add photo corner tabs to make it a simple design.

Scrapbooking has no limitations. Photo albums are just places to keep your photos in one place without losing them. Scrapbooks are much more than that. They’re memory-making books that provide as much entertainment in making them as you had during the events in the pictures.

You can even take some of your old photo albums and turn them into scrapbooks that look better and are more enjoyable for your visitors to peruse. Don’t be afraid to tap into your creative side and see what kind of designs you can come up with on your own!

My Toddler is Shy – Help!

My Toddler Is Shy

Shyness can be a difficult problem, especially for a child. Whether the shyness is a result of an inner problem or simply not wanting to participate in conversation, you can help your toddler overcome shyness.

If your child has an exuberant personality but tends to shy away from strangers, there really is nothing to worry about. However, if your toddler seems to have behavioral problems, becomes angry or fearful, then shyness is a cover for something more problematic.

More often than not, children are pushed into situations they are uncomfortable with; either having to kiss a stranger invited to the home; or having to seem more outgoing that he actually is can ultimately force the toddler to become more withdrawn and akin to a turtle, put his head back into the shell. In order to help your toddler overcome shyness, don’t make a point of it. Do not treat him any different than any other child. Think of your child as quiet and reserved, and refer to him that way if asked by others. There is nothing wrong with this assessment, and the manner in which you treat him will not overstate the obvious, but allow him the room he needs to find his way.

Shy children are also fearful of strangers. If you take your toddler to a friend’s home, let him bring along a blanket or a toy. It is a familiar object which, to the toddler, represents home – which he views as safe. It can also be used as a way to communicate between the toddler and the stranger. The point is not to force your child to have to say or do anything – just be. Eventually as he sees your response to strangers appear comfortable and happy, he will follow suit. Often shy children become introverted, and it takes a lot to draw them out. To this end, invite children to your home to play with your toddler. He will feel safer at home, and the children may help your toddler to open up in ways adults can’t.

Help your toddler overcome shyness by not doting on him, but by giving him a great deal of love and support. Do not make an issue out of his shyness, nor force him to become involved in situations which frighten or make him uncomfortable. He will find his way in time, and be able to communicate and come out of that shell. He just needs to find his niche; and once he does – all will be well. Remember, children need to progress at their own pace. While one sibling may be outgoing and friendly, another may be just the opposite. The key is not to make allowances for one; but to treat each child equally.

Avoid the Antibiotics – Quick Health Tip

AntibioticsWhen we get sick, often the first thing we want to do is take them to the doctor and get medication.

However, the common cold is not helped by getting a prescription. At best, the antibiotic would be there to guard against a secondary infection, and at worst, it can be part of the growing problem in healthcare, antibiotic resistance. Because we subject our bodies to them far too often, we now have “super bugs” that are resistant to common drugs.

The first line of treatment for a common cold, is lots of fluid. Whether the cold is in someone’s chest or head, more fluid helps to keep mucous loose and able to be coughed up or blown through the nose. However, when a person develops discolored discharge from either, particularly in tandem with a fever, that is usually indication of a bacterial infection of the sinuses, or possibly pneumonia.

Common colds do best with rest, lots of fluids, and the little things that make kids and adults more comfortable for the duration, like ice pops or lozenges for sore throats, and a cool mist humidifier to help with the congestion. In 7-10 days the virus’ cycle is over.

Instead of asking your doctor to reach for the prescription pad, try the advice above instead.
