Tired of Mediocre Digital Pictures? This Can Help

Learn Digital PhotographyIf you’re like me, you’ve had your fair share of disappointments when trying to capture important memories in your life. Pictures come out too dark, blurry or just don’t look the way you’d hoped. You’d think with digital technology and the ability to preview pictures in the screen, it’d be a whole lot easier.

Well, the truth is, it’s not that complicated once you know what you’re doing.

It took me a while, but I finally figured it out when I discovered “Your Guide to Digital Photography” by Dan Feildman. After being completely frustrated for too long, I happened across his website and I instantly download his concise guide that takes you through:

  • An overview of digital cameras, shopping for the right one for you and myths about digital photography.
  • Learning to effectively use the features of your camera and tips for taking photos of various subjects in different lighting.
  • Actually doing stuff with your pictures like editing, sharing and printing your photos.
  • Advanced information like white balance, interpolation, digital zoom and a bunch more.

There’s even information on memory cards, travel equipment and making money with your hobby.

You can get more of the details at the Your Guide to Digital Photography website.

And that’s just the guide. There are some pretty cool extras that come with it, including some useful video tutorials, FAQs, comparing digital cameras and advanced techniques.

It all finally took the mystery out taking great digital photos – plus the important tasks of organizing and using the photos too. If you’ve got a memory card full of could-be-better shots or your hard drive is full of photos you don’t know what to do with, definitely grab a copy of the guide.

It’s available 24/7 right here.

No more excuses for not taking GREAT digital shots.

Mama Hack: Double Up

2 Baby SwingsAs I’ve shared some of my Mama Hacks over the last couple of months, I’ve mentioned the idea of doubling up or buying in bulk a couple of times. Buying diapers and wipes in bulk saves money and reduces trips to the store. Having two diaper bags means you can swap them out quickly when you’re on the run. I even snuck in a “bonus hack” on how you can buy the same outfit in multiple sizes so when Baby outgrows one size, you can move him into the next and extend the cute.

There are a couple of other areas where it seems really handy to double up. While this might cost a little more upfront, I like to remember that most baby items can be found on the cheap with Craigslist.org. In fact, once you’re done, you can often turn around and sell items for the same amount you originally paid on Craigslist.

  • Strollers – We’ve talked before about strategic stroller use, but we didn’t look at how helpful it can be to have more than one stroller. The big, heavy-duty stroller is nice for be-bopping around the mall because it’s got extra storage space for shopping bags and such. On the other hand, it’s pretty bulky. For a recent trip to Las Vegas, I purchased an extremely light-weight umbrella-style stroller for BabyHacks. It was much easier for navigating. It also compacts nicely to be stored in the trunk of the car. Both strollers get lots of use.
  • Outerwear – First of all, has anyone noticed that they apparently don’t make little snowsuits without ears on them? I’d complain, but they’re really jus so adorable that it’s impossible not to just go with it. Anyway, BabyHacks has a cute little suit that I can zip right over the top of her clothes. It’s faster and warmer than a coat. On the other hand, one diaper disaster, and it’s completely out of commission. Since I live in a part of the country where we can spend months below freezing, it turned out to be a good idea to have more than one on hand.
  • Swings/Bouncers/Walkers – This is definitely one of those you want to buy on Craigslist to keep from spending a fortune. Still, one of PapaHacks’ coworkers had twins this year. As you can imagine, they spent a fair amount of time in their swings. The poor mama, though, was constantly trying to get both babies and both swings up and down the stairs. She finally gave in and bought duplicates (that’s a grand total of FOUR swings), and she hasn’t regretted her investment a bit.
  • Toys and Blankies – Some kids get really, really attached to certain toys or blankets. I’ve had several parents tell me that when they notice their little one is especially enamored with a particular stuffy or toy, they go ahead and buy a backup. You can put one away to pull out when the original gets lost or worn out, or you can put a version in each diaper bag and keep one at home. I know a woman who once had to drive many, many miles with a screaming baby to find a lost binky. He’s 30 years old now, and she’s still holding it against him.

Mama Hack: n. A tip or technique that reduces the chaos in a mama’s life and makes it easier to manage or more convenient. Because no one looks back and says, “Motherhood was a cinch!”)

How Do You Spell Love? T-I-M-E

How do you spell love? Well, you might say L-O-V-E of course, but I would beg to differ. That is because I believe that love can better be spelled for many of us, T-I-M-E. After all for love to be shown, maintained, developed, and given, it takes just that, time. No matter who the love is being shown to it will take you sacrificing your time to spend it showing that person that you love them. It will take you doing this over a period of time, before that person will believe that your love is true. Then it will take you spending time, continually, to ensure that the love relationship is maintained. It takes time to give love to someone else, which is why I spell love, T-I-M-E, instead of L-O-V-E.

So many people today, in many of their relationships believe that the other person knows that they love them, and that the other person has felt that love enough to where they no longer have to show them that love. This is a major mis-judgment, because in fact in order for most of us to feel loved that love must keep being shown, And in order to feel that love we must have the person who is to show their love for us in our presence, which is why love takes time, specifically spending time together.

This is easy for most of us when first meeting someone when a relationship is first established and when we first begin to love them, especially in romantic relationships. Think about it, when you first fall in love with someone you cannot think about anything else but that person. You eat, sleep, and breath their every good quality and seem to never be able to get enough of their presence. However, as time goes on that changes, but your love for them does not, so why do we think that we can somehow spend less time together or should spend less time together?

When it comes to love and showing our love to each other it is important that we do indeed spend time together in order to nurture, grow and maintain the relationship. The time spent on that relationship helps to build a sense of and a true feeling of commitment and trust, which is important to any relationship.

So, if you want a relationship to be well-maintained and to grow as it should be willing to commit the time that it takes to truly show them your love, and if you’re not willing to put in the time, do not expect to receive the commitment and for it to equal the love you are looking for in return.

Why David, Why?: David Duchovny & Sex Addiction

Sex AddictionRecently David Duchovny (of X-Files fame and Californication Golden Globe Winner) admitted that, much like his character on Californication, he is also addicted to sex. He entered sex rehab (Los Viajeros Inn) and his wife isn’t leaving him either. When you think of the word “sex addict” you instantly think of secret meetings, illegitimate children and venereal disease.

Turns out, this may be more of the sex addict variety that involves internet chat rooms, phone sex, and dirty magazines. While still a serious thing for a marriage to overcome, it makes me understand why his spouse (actress Tea Leoni) is sticking around.

I have to give David props too, he’s a well-liked man in Hollywood both in movies and on t.v., good-looking, very charming, etc. He could have done what many men have done in Hollywood when they’ve been busted for thier mistakes – remake themselves. Leave the wife, get a custody arrangement, go cavorting with women half their age and put on a big smile.

Instead he checked himself into rehab…good for him! I hope the best for his family and wish them well.

Nick Loves Mariah…Does Mariah Carey Love Nick Cannon?

Mariah Carey…or does Nick serve Mariah? Or who is Nick? Judging from the various news articles that are always coming out about Nick Cannon’s marital relationship with Mariah Carey, one can never tell. I feel bad for him, sorta. I am sure he knew he was marrying a diva when they tied the knot. So I have no sympathy when her reported antics pop up in magazines and the like, that’s just part of the gig.

But I do feel it’s unfair that he’s been labeled as her “assistant” and such just for doing things like running to get her water, rubbing her feet when she’s tired, etc. I’m sorry, but this sounds like normal (and welcomed) spousal behavior. Why must everything become a scandal?

And the same people calling Nick Cannon her assistant instead of her spouse also are denying the success he’s had in his own right. Sure he’s not MARIAH CAREY, but he’s had quite a bit of a career himself between movies, music, t.v., writing/directing.

To claim that he’s just a sidekick to Mariah is ridiculous. I think he brings the level-headed balance to Mariah’s life that she so desperately (and very obviously) needs/needed.

Full-Time eBay: What Does Your eBay Day Consist Of?

Full-time-ebayEBay is a fantastic way to make extra income. We’ve determined that from the beginning. For someone just starting out, eBay is way easier than opening up shop through your own website and praying the traffic will find you in the virtual world.

I recently received a question from a fellow eBay mom….

“I have been wondering this for a while. I need to turn eBay into a full time job and I was wondering how do you get a lot of stuff listed in one day?

If you do eBay full time, what does your day consist of? How do you list? I have experimented with a lot of ways to get things listed and I just can’t get more then 20 listed a day and that is work all day long on it.

How can I get in my head that this is my job and I need to work it like a real job?”

If you are buried under inventory, overwhelmed with photo editing, and can’t wrap your brain around what to list next – know that you are not alone.

Take baby steps!

Work at a pace your are comfortable with. Your business is not going to grow overnight. Burning the midnight oil is only going to make you overwhelmed, and want to give up. You can’t expect yourself to list hundreds of items to your eBay store in one day.

Take chunks of time to work on different things, that is normally pretty productive. Maybe spend an hour taking as many pictures as you can, then one hour to edit photo’s. Or maybe you just want to get through one bin of clothing and you’ll be satisfied. You’ll quickly find what method of madness works best for you. It’s being productive that will keep you motivated to do more.

Take pictures first. Usually in bunches of 10 items or so. That could potentially be 30 pictures. Then edit, upload to a photo host, and list those ten items on Turbo Lister (that’s just my own method). As I’m listing, I weigh and fold each item, putting them in resealable bags and on my shelves alphabetically by boutique designer. That way they are all ready to ship once they are sold. When that chunk is done, I make sure to upload everything from Turbo Lister to eBay… Finished!

Buy In Bulk. If you are listing the same item – just different sizes, it usually goes VERY fast because there is only one picture to take. If you have pictures to take of many different items, it will take a bit longer.

These are some of the tried and true methods that have helped auction experts build their businesses a little at a time. I hope you find it helpful in your business as well!

For Christian Readers: Centered in Christ

Centered in ChristWe all have many things that take up our time, energy, and thoughts daily. Whether it be school, work, friendships, extracurricular activities, or any number of other things our lives are definitely full, whether it be with good things or bad things, the fact is they are full.

Have you ever considered that even if your life is full of good things that it could still be effecting you negatively? It is like the old saying, “Too much of a good thing.” We can fill our lives with too many “good things”, making us not be able to focus on any one thing.

A lack of focus can cause you to always feel unfulfilled, lacking, and aimless. There is one person who can help you to achieve the focus and purpose that you need within your days and your life. That person is Jesus Christ. He helps us to center our lives, as long as we put Him in the center of them.

This starts with spending time with Him each day, preferably starting your day with Him, because to truly begin in the right frame of mind you need to begin your day with Christ. Setting aside this valuable time daily will help you to center your life and your daily schedule allowing you to focus on what is most important. Spend time consulting God on what is most important for you to do that day. Petition Him in prayer, and wait for Him to respond to you.

He may respond in a variety of ways: through His Word, which of course will require that you spend some time reading it, through the words of someone else, or through some circumstance in your life. Be aware of this so that you can look for and recognize God’s responding to you.

Then, you will probably want to access what it is that you spend your time on, so that you can determine what is most important and what you can eliminate in order for your life to be truly rewarding, focused and centered.

You could start by making a list of the things that you do and prioritizing them. You will soon realize what is necessary and what is not, then set out to eliminate those things that are not as necessary. You can use a process of elimination by asking yourself, “Is this really contributing anything to my life?” or “Am I doing this for the right reasons?” and “Am I doing this to please others or myself?” Asking yourself these type questions will be a revealing process that can lead you to being able to eliminate things from your life.

Once you start this process and you begin spending time daily with God you will begin to see how your life goes from scattered and aimless, to centered and purposeful.

Extra Money Selling Toys on eBay

Moms, if you’re in need of some extra cash check out this eBay Toy Selling Guide. The author Jenni Hunt is an eBay auction expert. She created this guide just to teach moms how to make surprisingly good money just by selling the “hot” toys on eBay.

Just recently I was searching for something for my daughter’s room that happened to be an IKEA product. Incidentally, we have an IKEA store here locally but I was hoping to get a great deal.

Um… no.

The item was selling at far above retail price! The point in this is that many times people are willing to pay more for stuff they want on eBay if they can’t get it locally. In the case of IKEA merchandise, if there isn’t a store near you (there are only a few around the US and people cross state lines to shop at them!), you might be willing to pay more than the item sells at retail if it’s what you really want.

Jenni has created this guide to help you discover what these “hot” items are – specifically toys that sell well this time of year, so you can leverage this concept to earn some quick, easy cash. She also shares how to get the best price for the item. Think it would be cool to turn your kid’s castoffs or yard sale or thrift store finds into a nice side income?

Yeah, thought so! Check it out here: eBay Toy Guide
