Cell Phone Dangers To Kids

Business Baby

Cell phones – they’re everywhere. It seems that now every man, woman and child has one. Cell phones are marketed to everyone from young kids to the elderly. New “simple” phones are being created for these two age groups.

But just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s harmless.

Shelly Kalnitsky of The Cell Phone Radiation News Bureau collects data from available research showing that radiation from cellular and cordless phones is especially harmful for kids, and will indeed be responsible for more cases of cancer than cigarettes for our future generations.

Skuut.

My kids have been enjoying this wooden balance bike by Skuut. Unlike most bicycles made for small children, it has no pedals. It also has no training wheels.

The Skuut is a Scandinavian design. The purpose of it is to teach a young child how to balance so they can learn how to ride a bike well without the adjustment from training wheels to a “big kid bike”.

You can hear their testimonials and learn more about the bike here: Skuut bike review

Gladiator Sandals

I wish I knew why gladiator sandals are still popping up in magazines.  They are still being worn by celebrities and soon-to-be spring breakers galore.

I don’t know why they put them on in the first place (I blame movies in general) but I wish they would take them off and leave them off.  The gladiator sandal always reminds me of a fancy bear trap.  It might be shiny, but it’s still a bear trap, why would you want your foot caught in it?

To add to the garishness of the sandal, the designers have also embellished them with jewels, buttons, and other oddities.  The only good use I can think of for these sandals would be for perhaps halloween.

Since that is many months from now, we should pack those away for now.  At the very least, one should take pity on their own pedicure.  How can cute toes painted an adorable shiny hue possibly compete with the bling bling shine of these atrocious sandals?

My guess is that these sandals will be captured in time, much like “shiny shoes” (those black patent leather things) were in the 90s.

Gifts From Your Heart – Homemade Chocolate Dipped Coffee Spoons

Whether you’re trying to find your babysitter a Christmas gift, or your sister a little Valentine’s Day gift, or your child’s teacher a Thank You gift, there are times when you have to come up with an idea that won’t break your budget. If your family is like most, your finances are bleak and gift giving is one luxury you can’t afford anymore.

Normally when people are struggling with a tight budget, things that are considered unnecessary are the first things to go. Gifts are often the first things to be cut out of our budget, but we never feel good about that. We want to show our love for the people we care about, and who care about us, by giving gifts. How do we accomplish that with limited funds? By using our creativity and giving a gift that we put our heart into.

Making chocolate treats is one of my favorite gift ideas. It’s pretty simple to impress someone with a beautiful box of chocolate covered pecans or chocolate dipped pretzels. Chocolates always seem festive, and homemade chocolates say you appreciate someone very, very, much indeed.

Making chocolate treats isn’t as difficult as it may seem. You’ll need just a few simple supplies, a little practice, and you’re on your way. Once you get good a making a few treats, your family and friends will look for them with great anticipation. This particular chocolate treat is really great because no one will think to make them just for themselves.

Coffee Spoons For The Chocolate Fanatic

This spoon will top your list of all time favorite gifts for the coffee lover. What’s great is that you can give this gift to a man or woman because chocolate knows no limits.

Start with this list of items:

You can either purchase some nice silver spoons from your friendly local thrift shop, or just buy some heavy plastic spoons. I like the silver ones because you can find fancy spoons and sometimes some pretty unusual ones, too. Just wash and dry them before using.

In the baking aisle of your grocery store, you will find milk chocolate coating. This is the chocolate you’ll want to use. Don’t use the Real Chocolate as it is way too fussy and you don’t want to worry about it not turning out right.

If you’d like to add some crushed peppermint candy or other candy sprinkles to your spoons, that’s really pretty, too. You may also look for flavoring oils, like peppermint or amaretto, to really make these spoons fancy.

You’ll need to cover cookie sheets with parchment paper so the spoons won’t stick while cooling. Don’t use waxed paper as the chocolate will stick and you’ll have a mess. Parchment paper can also help the clean up if you’re working on a larger number of spoons.

Each spoon will be wrapped in a clear cellophane candy bag. You’ll find these in a craft store with all the candy making supplies. Also, at the craft store, be sure to pick up some decorative items to tie the bags shut, like ribbon, gift wrap ribbon, raffia, or jute rope.

Follow these simple steps:

Place a large pot of water on stove, bring to boil and turn off heat. Meanwhile, cut your chocolate into small pieces and melt by placing in a small heavy pot inside the larger pot of water that has boiled. When chocolate starts to melt around the edges, remove from hot water and stir with a rubber spatula or big wooden spoon until all the chocolate has melted. Be careful that you don’t splash any of the water from the big pan into the small pan.

When the chocolate is melted down, take a spoon and carefully dip it into the chocolate, hanging on to the handle, and place it on parchment paper on your tray or cookie sheet. Now is the time to add any decorations like sprinkles or crushed peppermints. Then continue dipping each spoon and decorating. When you are done, take your cookie sheet full of spoons and place it in a cold area. You can put them in a freezer or refrigerator but don’t let them stay in there because they will get moist. If you do use the freezer or refrigerator, take them out in just a few minutes and let them totally set up somewhere dry.

When your spoons are all set, place one in your cellophane candy bag and tie shut with some of your ribbon or raffia. You can embellish your ribbon with a little candy cane or anything else that would make your gift package special. You can also package more than one spoon in a candy box for someone who is lucky enough to receive more than one chocolate coated spoon.

That’s all there is! You have just created a one-of-a-kind gift for someone special in your life. Doesn’t that feel great? Your gift didn’t cost a lot of your hard earned money… you gave a creative gift that will be greatly appreciated… a gift from your heart.

Tools of the Trade

Just like a man with their plethora of tools in the garage, it is important for ladies to have their own set of tools. Must haves in my kit are several different kinds of tweezers. I never know when I’ll have disobedient eyebrows and depending on the angle, length, location of the hair, that is what dictates which of my three tweezers I will use.

Tweezers number one are metal with smooth straight tips. I have found these to work best for the inner corner of my eyebrow closest to the bridge of the nose. Tweezers number two are metal with smooth slanted tips and work best for above the eyebrows and below. Tweezers number three are metal with rubber-coated slant tips. These are great for above the eyebrow line where longer more stubborn hair grows in.

My other “can’t live without” device are my small round edged scissors. These are great for trimming hair, nails, just about anything. I’ve even used them to help shape sticks of cosmetic color like wooden eye liner pencils etc.

And if your spouse gives you grief about how many tools it takes to help keep you looking good – or maybe just less scary…just remind him that he doesn’t even know how to operate that saw sitting out in the garage, at least you know how to use your tools!

18th Birthday Gift Ideas For A Girl

Are you getting ready to celebrate an 18 year old birthday for someone that you love and have no idea what they would like? Well this is one of the most important birthday’s since they are getting ready to start their adulthood; you do not want to disappoint them and get them something that they hate.

If you know someone who is turning 18 then you will definitely want to know what they would love to have. The main thing that you as parent or a friend should do is to let them know just how much you care.

Give them the chance to have a birthday celebration with some of their closest friends. Young adults and teenagers all love to hang out with friends and have a good time. Of course if you trust them that they will be able to handle themselves you should plan a night out so that they can have the house with their friends.

Money definitely makes anyone happy and giving an 18 year old girl some most likely means that she will go shopping for clothing or jewelry. Men on the other hand are not so much into fashion and most likely will go shopping for something else. However they will be pleased to get money on this special day as well.

A new vehicle would be high on the list for anyone who is turning 18. With the economy being in the shape that it is in; I would highly suggest that you try to find a great deal on the internet or in your local area. I have made it a point that my children will not get a new vehicle unless they have a job. They would have to be able to make the payments so that they can learn about financial responsibilities.

Another great 18th birthday gift idea would to give them some concert tickets to their favorite band or sporting event. Young people who finally reach this age can no longer be pleased the way they used to be when they were younger.

If you want to find some other great 18th birthday gift ideas be sure to visit our site below. Even if your loved one is turning a different age; you will be able to find any kind of birthday gift ideas below.

All Natural Winter Skincare Tips

Some natural skincare tips help to protect our delicate features during the winter months. While winter is beautiful, our skin may not be due to the often harsh weather conditions.

It is not uncommon for skin to appear dry, red, and itchy during the winter months. Our skin lacks moisture do to the drying conditions of winter. Layering clothing doesnt stop the dryness from occurring. Moisturizing our skin is the key.

1. Get your eight glasses of water“When we lose moisture through our pores, it has to be put back. Our bodies are composed of mostly water and we risk dehydration if we dont replenish. Drinking lots of water is healthy for our bodies inside and out.

2. Nighttime care“We often forget to protect our skin while we sleep. Moisturizing night creams for face and body maintain a layer of moisture on our skin. The warmth helps the moisturizers to sink in and nourish our skin. Use a natural salve or balm on your skin right before bedtime for best results.

3. Dont neglect sunscreen“The sun still shines just as bright in the winter. We may not feel it because of the bitter cold temperatures, but the radiation is damaging to skin nonetheless. Before applying any makeup, add sunscreen to the face.

4. Use a humidifier“The air in winter can be very dry. Even in the house, the heat can have a drying effect on the skin and the nasal passages. To add bits of moisture to the air invest in a humidifier. There are two types: warm and cool mist. A cool mist humidifier adds moisture to the air but lowers the temperature a few degrees for comfort.

5. Exfoliate your skin“This can be accomplished with skin creams that contain microbeads, a sugar scrub, or by using a loofah sponge. Using gently circular motions, the exfoliant removes dead skin from our body. A weekly scrub allows healthy skin cells to absorb the moisturizers better and the skin can maintain a healthy level of moisture.

6. Lukewarm showers“Taking a shower at cooler temperatures keeps pores closed so they dont lose moisture. Shorter showers prevent skin dryness. Rinse off quickly after lathering up to keep skin soft. Apply a moisturizing lotion after toweling off.

Winter winds can wreak havoc with our skin and leave us irritated. Learn to protect your skin by adding these simple steps to your daily routine.
