So lately I’ve been sampling various products from the world of “mineral makeup”….this was after my initial post on how mineral makeup is taking over the world.  So what do I do? Promote their cause by buying their product (shaking head, sad).  Some of the products I’ve tried are ok, I tried both real I.D. Bare Minerals “Bare Escentuals” makeup and knock offs.

The first thing I tried that I did NOT like was the I.D. Bare Minerals “Weather Everything” mascara.  It promises to survive a multitude of weather, apparently up to and including hurricanes :) I bought into this idea because what gal doesn’t want to look glamorous while trudging into work through 2 feet of snow? I gleefully made my purchase on ebay for a steal at only $8.15 including shipping.

Normally this mascara would run approximately $17 a tube.  My feelings on it? It isn’t worth the $8 I paid, much less $17.  Now, if you have naturally long, curled, thick, lovely lashes and you are merely looking to stiffen and darken them up and have them not flake, smudge, or otherwise have the color come off during inclement weather – then this is the product for you.

However, if you need a little help in the eyelash area (length, curl, thickness) then this product will not work.  It will darken and stiffen your otherwise stubby lifeless lashes and leave them that way.  To me, a good mascara succeeds at more things than just not coming off.

So yes, you can purchase this product and “weather everything” in it, but you will be doing so with short, stiff, lifeless eyelashes my friend.  If anyone else has tried this and had a different experience, please share, maybe I purchased a bad tube or something.

My family has just started our sixth year of home schooling. When we hear how other families prepare for the first day of traditional school, we’re reminded that we have made the right decision for us.

My children never worry about whether their teacher will like them or not, what the other kids will be wearing, or who their friends will be this year.

Home schooling can be a wonderful experience, if it’s the right choice for you, and if you are prepared for it. However, I’ve met a lot of parents who start out thinking home schooling will be great, but are pulling their hair out and ready to quit before the first year is over.

Here are five questions to ask yourself, before you make the decision to home school your own children.

1. Are you willing to take sole responsibility for your child’s education? When you homeschool, the parents assume 100% of the responsibility for their child’s education. Even if you engage other resources to help educate your child, it is up to you to find those resources, and make sure they’re meeting your child’s needs.

2. Is your family ready to be together all day, every day… even on grouchy days? Increased “togetherness” can be draining if you’re not prepared for it. Most home schooling families find that home schooling has a positive effect on family relationships. Over time, many parents and children grow to enjoy being together. However, if you look forward to your kids going to school each day so you can have time alone, home schooling will change all that.

3. Do you have the energy to home school? You’ll spend more energy home schooling than sending children to school. Besides teaching your children, you’ll need to keep involved with home school activities, opportunities, teaching methods and ideas – not to mention staying current with home schooling legislation.

4. Are you ready for your home to look, um, “different?” A few years ago, we had a realtor evaluate our house for possible sale. One of his comments was, “You have a lot of… stuff…” He was right! Our house is filled with, not only the regular items you’d find in a busy household, but with our current activities: school books on the coffee table, science projects on the kitchen counter. Some people find that having their home school take over their house is much more difficult than they expect. If you like to keep everything uncluttered, you may find home schooling hard for this reason.

5. How well do you handle friends and family telling you that you’re wrong? I’ve been fortunate that my family completely supports our decision to homeschool, but a lot of friends still think we’re making the wrong choice.

When you home school, you need to be prepared for some possible criticism from your family, friends, and society. You can prepare yourself by arming yourself with good information and remembering why you home school. However, if you’re someone who like to please others, and others’ opinions are important to you, their criticism of your new lifestyle could be painful.

Before you decide to home school, consider your decision carefully from every angle. If home schooling still sounds good to you, it might just be the right decision for your family too!

My close friend at work decided to have her tooth fixed. She’s a very pretty girl, has an otherwise beautiful smile, but she had this one naughty tooth that affected both her smile and the way she spoke. Pictures that she took with loved ones always reminded her of this tooth as the camera would catch it “just right” each time, making it appear worse than it was in person.

Having been recently engaged and looking forward to her nuptials next year, she decided to check into braces. While exploring her options, she stumbled across the “Invisalign” option, which was both cost effective and more attractive than regular braces.

Her journey began with x-rays and a model being made of her teeth as they currently were, and what they could be if she went through the Invisalign process. The computer spit out the answer she was hoping for. Number one, she was a good candidate for Invisalign, number two, it would only take ten “trays” to fix that tooth.

Every two-three weeks, she would go to her dentist and a new tray would be given to her. It would be tender for a few days, required some additional (free) tooth filings in between, but here we are on tray number 8 out of 10 and somehow, slowly, over the past several weeks, that tooth is almost straight!

The great part of Invisalign, and why I am such a fan, is that our (and hers) dental insurance considers Invisalign “braces” and pays the same towards those as they do towards normal braces for kids, etc. Her Invisalign process was also eligible for her to use in her medical flexible spending account at work so she didn’t have to pay taxes on the medical expense of her teeth.

The best news is that you get to keep all of your trays in case that wayward tooth ever should decide to go back to the way it was, etc. You use the final tray as your “retainer”…the Invisalign are completely clear and can be removed for cleaning, eating, or if you are self conscious about doing a speech, etc. while wearing them. They affected her speech minimally.

Her out of pocket cost? Just $500 (paid paycheck by paycheck from her medical expense account – tax free). This is an appealing option for appearance, cost, and time.

These days, the importance of money is at an all time high. The economic crisis is readily looming just over the horizon if it hasn't already arrived yet. So it's very important that we are prepared for anything that it might bring along with it. And teaching our kids to appreciate money is one way to make the financial crisis a good family bonding experience.

The most pervasive concept of aromatherapy in North America is that of nice smells making you feel good - a strong whiff out of a little bottle and you're carried away to your personal 'happy place'. Not a bad idea, but this concept carries the burden of 'New Age' stereotypes with it. Aromatherapy is but a simple folk remedy that works only because the yoga-posing, mantra-chanting, tantric-sex practicing user thinks it does. Well, we've got news for the 'Establishment': Science has validated aromatherapy! Perhaps most profoundly, science has shown that smelling essential oils has true anti-anxiety effects; there's actual data showing essential oils will actually help you relax. Now all you natural health and wellness practitioners can tell your doubting, possibly smirking friends - this stuff is for real.

Just like any other home based business, data entry jobs can be very lucrative and profitable if the work is done with persistence, determination and motivation. Online data entry jobs have been on the rise since the year 2001 due to the huge amount of information handled every day creating a need for data entry people. If the data entry process is not resorted to by companies or corporate houses there will be loads and loads of paperwork, which is considered to be non productive. It may also lead to loss of information, data and in turn revenue in the process. When data entry of the information is done, it preserves all the necessary information of the businesses and can help in the smooth flow of business processes towards profit.
