How in the World Do People Save Money?

Finances can be very overwhelming, especially if you feel like you are constantly trying to make ends meet. So, how in the world do people save money in our consumer focused society?

The most important thing to understand is this: money savings really boils down to the small purchasing decisions that we make on a daily basis. If you keep a frugal mindset and really consider each purchase that you would like to make, then you can cut out the frivolous shopping and save that money instead.

But, this is a hard thing for many people to do. Usually these types of small purchases really don’t seem like much… $10 to go out to lunch, $8 at the movie theater, $1 for a soda, $20 to buy a new sweater, etc. But, if you are making these spur-of-the-moment purchases on a regular basis, it can really add up fast.

Don’t think that I am saying that you cannot have any fun if you want to save money, because free spending cash is healthy for everyone. The best thing that you can do is to budget yourself some spending money each month, and be sure to stick within that budget. It may even be a good idea to get your spending money in cash at the beginning of the month, this way will will be able to visibly see how much money you have left to spend freely each month.

Another good way to slow down the spending is to cut back your credit card usage. It has been found that people are more willing to spend larger amounts of money when they are shopping with a credit card. If you choose to continue shopping with credit cards, be sure that you have a budget put in place first… and then stick to that budget! Write down all of your spending so that you can see how much of the budget is left each month.

If there is an item that you would like to buy, you should watch the sale prices for that item. You also maximize your savings by shopping with coupons– there are coupons available for everything that you can think of: restaurants, clothing, groceries, personal care items, pet products, baby items, etc, etc. Coupon shopping is a very effective way to lower your spending.

Really, people save money by not spending it. They are frugal with their shopping choices, and instead of spending cash on smaller un-necessary things, they choose to save the money.

Review: Covergirl Wetslicks AmazeMint Lipgloss

I stumbled across a holiday pack of two Covergirl Wetslicks AmazeMint lipglosses for the cheap price of $5.00 at Walmart the other day.  These are perfect for both Winter and Summer or maybe for that Spring Vacation you already have planned.  The lipgloss comes in an array of colors, is not overly sticky/goopy like many brands and the real wonderful quality it has is this – it’s refreshingly minty.

Thus, the term “AmazeMint”…it is made with Crest brand mint oil.  What’s not to love? It goes on slick and moist, is minty, tastes good, and smells nice too.  I find it soothing now that the snow has hit and I could also see how it would be refreshing at the beach on vacation or during those hot summer months when it’s hard to feel refreshed in general.

I’m not sure if this was a coincidence or not, but I had slightly chapped lips when I tried the product and my chapped lips went away after wearing the new shade for a weekend.  A definite must have for your lips!

Homemade Christmas Decorations for a Simpler, More Meaningful Christmas

Are you planning a simpler, more meaningful Christmas this year? Many families are putting aside the trinkets and the toys, and rediscovering the peace that comes from spending quality time with family and friends.

Just because you’re celebrating more simply this year, that doesn’t mean you have to forego your favorite family traditions, like gift giving, Christmas parties and decorations – although some families choose to do so. Instead, you can find ways to tone down your festivities. Focus on why you’re doing these activities instead of what you have to do.

Making homemade Christmas decorations together is a wonderful way to mark the start of a simpler season. Creating Christmas decorations with your family and friends is one way to remind yourself WHY you celebrate Christmas.

Here are some simply homemade Christmas decorations you can make with your family and friends. These are easy to make, so even the youngest members of your family can participate. While you’re making these, remember that perfection is not the goal. Rather, enjoy the time you get to spend together, and the savor the Christmas memories you’re making.

Christmas Glitter Ornaments: Use Christmas-themed cookie cutters to cut shapes out of heavy white paper. Cover one side of the paper with clear drying craft glue, then cover with white glitter. When the side is dry, glue white glitter on the other side as well. Let dry flat. When your ornament is completely dry, make a hole at the top and thread with a ribbon or colorful string to hang on your tree.

Juice Can Lid Christmas Ornament: This homemade Christmas decoration makes a lovely memory, and can be given as a gift to grandparents. Cut a photo of your child, or your family, to fit on a juice can lid. Use a hot glue gun to glue lace or fabric trim around the lid, as a frame for the picture. Make a loop out of ribbon, and attach it to the back of your ornament.

Balloon and String Ornament: This is my favorite homemade Christmas ornament because they can be decorated in so many different ways. Blow up a small balloon (as big as you want your ornament to be) and cover with fabric stiffener. Wrap colorful string or yarn around the balloon until it’s almost all covered. Let it dry and pop the balloon. Put a hanger on top and add small festive decorations to your ornament.

One alternative for this homemade Christmas ornament is to leave an opening when you’re covering it with string. When you’ve popped the balloon, hot glue lace or trim around the edges of the opening. Inside the ornament set up a small nativity scene, or other Christmasy theme. You can also make the balloon larger and use this ornament as a tabletop decoration.

Why Use Organic Skin Care for Babies

Keep Your Baby’s Skin Smooth and Clean with Organic Skin Care Products

When you bring home your new bundle of joy, you bring home a huge responsibility. That little one is relying on you to care for her in every way. Before you rub that baby lotion on her soft, delicate skin, you need to learn a little bit about organic skin care.

Why Organic Skin Care for Babies Is Important

Babies have very soft, sensitive skin. Not only that, but a baby’s skin is five times as thin as an adult’s skin. This means the products you put on your baby’s skin are absorbed into her body, and often quite quickly.

If you read your bottle of baby lotion, do you know what most of the ingredients are? Unless you have an organic or all-natural product, you probably don’t. Most common baby products are full of synthetic chemicals, such as sodium lauryl sulfate and triethanolamine. If you cannot pronounce an ingredient, do you really want it to go into your baby’s body?

To date there has not been enough research into the long-term effects of exposing babies to these products. We do know that some petroleum-based products contain waxes that coat the skin. This inhibits the skin’s natural ability to exchange moisture, which can lead to irritation and discomfort. It is possible that the other synthetic products that are being constantly absorbed into the tiny bodies of most babies are leading to serious diseases in the child’s future.

The good news is that there are alternatives to the traditional baby care products. Organic baby care products can be found that do not contain these potentially dangerous chemicals. By turning to nature to care for your baby, you will protect her from potential health hazards that have not yet been discovered.

Tips for Organic Skin Care

If you are committed to caring for your baby’s skin organically, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. Your goal in the first six months of your baby’s life should be to use as few skin are products as possible. This is not always easy to abide by, because newborns seem to get a lot of rashes. Resist the urge to run to the drug store and buy some cream the first time you notice a rash on your baby’s skin. Chances are it is harmless and is not causing your baby any discomfort.

If you do need to use products to help your baby with a rash or other skin problem, choose single-ingredient organic products first. For instance, you can use pure shea butter to moisturize baby’s skin. This will allow you to watch for allergies. Since these are single-ingredient products, you will know what caused the allergy.

You may feel that you need to bathe your baby every day. This is actually bad for your baby’s skin. A bath two or three times a week is sufficient, and too much bathing could cause your baby’s skin to dry out.

Keep your baby away from the sun. Use hats and protective clothing when you are outdoors. Remember, there is no safe sunscreen to use on an infant, so you must keep your baby covered.

After your baby has reached the six-month milestone, add other organic skin care products to his hygiene regimen. Read all labels to make sure that the product is truly natural and organic. Watch your baby closely for signs of an allergy whenever you try something new. Even with natural skin care products, there could be some ingredient that your baby has a sensitivity to.

Once you establish a good skin care routine for your baby, stick to it. Do not let other people or caregivers use products on your baby that you are uncomfortable with. Remember, it is your responsibility to protect your little one, so start from day one with organic skin care for babies.

The Benefits of Working As a Freelancer

The term freelancer or freelance was first coined in the Medieval Age by Sir Walter Scott in Ivanhoe, while referring to “mercenary warriors”. Nevertheless, this term has acquired different meanings over time and nowadays one can easily associate it to the following definition: a person who pursues a profession without establishing a long-term commitment to any employer (overseas or within the country).

The phenomenon of the Globalization in which the World Wide Web can be located also brought something new to this term’s definition, since a freelance worker no longer deals with geographical constraints. It is then possible to freelance without being physically present: the freelancer can work to a one-time employer living overseas still they are only a click away.

As freelancers became more and more dependant on the Internet, and western companies increased outsourcing, virtual marketplaces such as GetACoder (getacoder.com) started coming into light. GetACoder.com brings together hundreds of employers and freelancers from all over the world, who work on a per-project basis. This facilitator system accelerates the whole market process and provides key competitive advantages to both parties involved. It is a win-win situation both to employers and freelancers. Employers get good quality work at lesser costs and freelancers get paid a considerable amount for the project completed.

By going to these outsourcing platforms, freelancers can enjoy a wide variety of assignments, allowing them to choose the ones that better suit their areas of expertise. Examples are freelance writing, freelance graphic design, freelance programming and many other freelance opportunities. It should be noted, however, that greater emphasis has been placed towards the field of Information Technology.

Monetarily speaking, the freelance activity can become a secondary income or even the first: one can earn some extra money in the spare time or go full-time instead. Recent studies have shown that part-time freelancing has become rather popular because it helps people paying their bills, as the cost of living is increasingly high. In addition, part-time freelancing enables to practice one’s profession, i.e. one can earn some extra bucks for doing what one does in the regular job.

Freelancers that decide to work via GetACoder can take full benefit of the free escrow payment system, which has proved to be a brilliant idea. Basically it works like this: employers put apart a particular amount into an escrow account on GetACoder, for a certain freelancer; and both parties are able to view the payment in the escrow account. This payment system gives each party half of the control and the assurance that their welfare is protected. On one hand only the employer can release the amount from the escrow account, on the other hand only the freelancer can cancel this escrow payment.

Becoming a freelancer brings many other advantages at the personal level, since freelancers do not have to deal with some of the daily hassles regular workers usually face, such as: a fixed agenda, traffic, irritating colleagues and a cranky boss. By working at home, freelancers have more freedom to choose their work schedule, as well as their clients. Moreover, contrarily to what is generally believed, freelancing does not need to be a lonely activity, given that freelancers can decide to form agencies. The agency model is quite effective as it allows freelancers to accept larger projects that require skills outside the scope of one individual.

So, we invite you to weight up the benefits of becoming an online freelancer and doing pressure-free jobs that only take some time and effort…all from home.

Writing a Killer Resume to Attract Prospective Employers

A Resume is a document containing a summary highlighting the experiences and credentials and education usually written for the purpose of gaining an interview while seeking an employment. Since resume is the first thing that a potential employer encounters regarding the applicant, it carries a great significance.

A resume may be limited to one or two pages and can be organized in several ways. A chronological resume highlights a candidate’s job experience in reverse chronological order, that is, the main body of the document shows the professional experience beginning from the most recent experience going chronologically backwards through a succession of previous experience. The main aim of a chronological resume is to give an impact of credibility through experience gained. This type of resume is the most common resume in use.

A functional resume highlights work experience and skills classified by skill area or job function. The objective of a functional resume is to focus on the skills particular to the kind of position being sought which directly gives weightage to professional capabilities and experiences as a backup. In contrast to chronological resume, functional resume will highlight these competencies and is most suited for jobs that require a particular skill or clearly defined personality traits.

A combination resume balances both the chronological and functional resumes, which typically leads with a functional list of job skills and then the chronological list of employers.

A resume is quite short and therefore contains experience directly relevant to the position and many resumes use precise keywords and action words that the employer is seeking for. Increasing number of job seekers and employers are using Internet based jobs and therefore an ideal resume should be long enough to provide a concise, adequate and accurate description of an applicant’s employment history and capabilities. Job seekers are now able to reach the employers through direct e-mail contact and resume blasting which is the mass distribution of resumes to increase personal visibility within the job market. The simplicity and complexity of the resume formats produce results varying from person to person, industry and occupation.

Since many employers find candidates through search engines, it is important to use appropriate keywords while writing a resume. And they must choose a file format to maintain their resume. Unlike regular two page resumes, which highlight only the recent work experience and education, Internet resumes highlight the candidate’s skill development over his or her career.

While writing a resume, emphasis should be placed on accomplishments, effective organization and more importantly the appearance of the resume. To achieve this, proper care should be taken to see to it that the font is plain and easy to read written on a resume quality paper, formatting the resume with simple bullets, highlighting the accomplishments and not taking away the attention.

While organizing a resume it is very important to start with an active descriptive action word, include numbers and percentages and restrict the resume to one page. The resume is nothing but an advertisement with the main purpose of winning an interview and to be an effective resume, it should stand out from the crowd.

Educational Gift Ideas For Kids

With the holiday season right around the corner, there may be many different types of games and toys on your child’s list. Now is also a great time to introduce the children in your life to a nice educational gift or two such as educational toys, books and games, especially if they have shown interest in one particular area. From chemistry sets to children’s books, an educational gift can make your holiday one that can spark a lifelong interest in learning.

One idea for children who show an interest in science is the microscope. Since this educational gift will be used for several years, you might want to splurge on a good, high quality microscope that will last for years. You can often find a good microscope online for less than you might pay in your local retail shops, as well.

Another good science based educational gift is the chemistry set. Most chemistry sets are relatively inexpensive, and you should be able to find one at your local retailer as well as online.

Books for kids are also a wonderful way to add learning to the holidays. You can find many books inexpensively online and you can even plan to open the seasonal books on Christmas Eve so that you can celebrate the night before with a nice story. The great thing about buying books to mark the holidays is that the stories that you read will become a family tradition passed on to the next generation.

If you are trying to decide on a book for a young child but you aren’t really sure if they are reading yet don’t worry. You can simply choose a book that is suitable for their age level. If they aren’t quite ready to read it on their own they will love having mom or dad read to them.

Board games also make a great educational gift for young learners, especially those who are just learning the concept of sportsmanship. Kids can learn by playing almost any board game, but those that are age appropriate are the best choices for elementary aged kids. Kids that are younger than five should be given board games that teach basic skills, such as taking turns and counting. Board games are also a good choice when you simply want to spend more time as a family. You can make one or two night a week game night, and play the board games that you have received as gifts throughout the holiday season.
