Review: Clinique Superfit Foundation

To my dismay, Clinique has changed their “superfit” foundation formula.  Several of my coworkers use this brand of foundation and I also use it in the late Winter/Early Spring due to the humidity levels experienced indoors during this time of year in my state.

Since I ran out of my color (shell) I mentioned to a friend that I needed to pay a visit to the mall and pick up some more superfit foundation.  She replied with “don’t bother”…of course I asked why.  She, along with several other coworkers, claim that the new foundation feels different (not in a good way).

When pressed for more information, they stated that it turned their skin orange around their hairline and eyebrows.  Not liking the oompa loompa look, I have decided to pass on purchasing superfit this season.

I don’t understand why companies feel the need to tweak things from time to time when there appears to be no problem to begin with.  The superfit was a good line for Clinique and now the foundation has a 67% approval rating.  Now I don’t know a company on the planet that would be glad to have a product rating like that.

Hopefully Clinique won’t make any more changes to their makeup formulas, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Ways Women find Daily Inspiration

by Deanna Collins

Inspiration comes when you least expect it. In fact, quite often if you’re looking for inspiration it just cannot be found; however, rest assured if you’re sitting in your car in traffic or doing the laundry a great idea or a profound aha moment will emerge. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could find a way to create those moments each and every day?

It’s possible, when you know where and how to look for it.

15 Places to Find Every Day Inspiration

1. Music. Music is one element that can conjure up an old but pleasant memory from a happier time. Listen to some old favorites and reminisce or try new artists and see if you like their sound. Sing along if you know the words. If not, hum loudly until you feel it in your soul.

2. Animals. They are cute and cuddly and loyal to a fault. Pets could teach man a thing or two about life and trust. If you have a pet, try watching their actions from time to time. They are actually quite funny. As a substitute, watch the animals in the park or a zoo.

3. Nature. Whether it is the wind in the trees or the clouds in the sky, stop for a moment and just listen to nature. Experience it as you walk down the street. Experience it for a few moments each day sitting on your back porch.

4. Children. Whether they’re your own or you’re just watching them from afar, children have infinite wisdom. When they’re really young, they live their lives with complete honesty.

5. Read a favorite book. Books are like old friends. Reread a favorite and get reacquainted. Some books offer new insights.

6. Religious text. Memorize your favorite religious passages to find inspiration when you need it most.

7. Meditation. Millions of people can’t all be wrong. Meditation quiets the mind so you can gain new insights without conscious thought.

8. Art. Experience your favorite type of artwork in a museum or gallery.

9. Textures. Textures in walls, carpets, animals, and clothing bring sensation and other feelings to our minds. Use it for inspiration and positive energy.

10. People do amazing things every day. One person holding a door open for an elderly person or showing kindness to another can inspire you to do the same.

11. Seek gratitude. Create a list of the things in your life that you are grateful for each day.

12. Dance. Dancing frees our hearts and our minds. Music or no music, a good happy dance in the middle of the day will put a smile on your face and inspiration in your heart.

13. Friends. Friends are a source of inspiration because they let us into their hearts. We become close to people and are allowed the pleasure of sharing their hopes, fears, joys and challenges.

14. Quotes. Pick an appropriate quote everyday and let that inspire all that you do.

15. Hobbies. They add passion and meaning to your life. There is more than work that makes you feel worthwhile.

Look around and see inspiration in places that seemed unlikely. When you find it, share it with others so that they can be inspired as well.

Beauty Anti Aging Treatments

antiageby Marianna Pells

There are now many options when it comes to cosmetic anti aging treatments. Cosmetic anti aging treatments could be surgical or natural. Skin resurfacing peels are surgical treatments that include chemical and laser peels. Non-surgical treatments now include microdermabrasion and herbal skin remedies.

Laser Peel Treatment:

The laser peel treatment utilizes a laser, which is carbon dioxide. The laser gets rid of fine lines, wrinkles and general skin damage, gradually peeling off very thin layers of skin. The treatment gives the patient a clearer complexion with reduced creases, scars and dark spots. It targets wrinkles surrounding the eyes and mouth, but can also be performed on the whole face and body.

There are still side effects that occur, particularly in brown, black and olive skin types. As exact as it can be, individuals with those skin types can still end up with uneven skin tones after the procedure. In severe cases, there may be bleeding and bruising.

Chemical Peel Procedure:

Chemical peel treatments target wrinkles, dark spots and pimples. During treatment, the outer layers of the skin are gradually peeled off until the skin has a clearer, polished surface.

One ingredient used in some chemical peel formulas is Alphahydroxy acid, a fruit acid that is one of the mildest ingredients used in skin resurfacing procedures. The chemical Phenol is a stronger solution used to treat more visible wrinkles and extensive skin damaged caused by UV rays. Risks include scarring especially on the neck and other parts of the body.

Microdermabrasion procedure:

The Microdermabrasion treatment is a simple peeling treatment that utilizes gentle ingredients in contrast to those that utilize chemicals. It is readily available at spas, clinics and stores where you can purchase do-it-yourself kits. While on microdermabrasion treatment, the patient undergoes an exfoliating action on the skin. The action cleanses pores and enhances the turnover of skin cells. Hence the treatment’s effectiveness on acne and acne scars.

There are two kinds of microdermabrasion treatments, one that uses crystals and another that doesn’t. When crystals are used, they may differ in hardness, abrasiveness and type. Aluminum-oxide crystals can be quite rough on sensitive skin, and so there is some considerable risk when it comes to microdermabrasion treatments. A patient goes through weekly intervals and conditioning peels every 6 weeks for maintenance.

Organic Skin Care

Natural skin care can be achieved at home and can have long-term benefits without the cost. Using natural ingredients can alleviate sun damage and wrinkling skin. Organic cosmetic anti aging treatments include essential oils, body butters and carrier oils. Essential oils may derive from tea tree, lemongrass, peppermint, jojoba and lavender.

Two popular home-made cosmetic anti aging treatments are honey and shea butter. Honey is rich in antioxidants and has the ability to retain moisture. Shea butter is used to treat dermatitis, stretch marks and eczema. Clinical studies have shown that shea butter is safe and gives effective results.

If an organic skin care treatment has more than 50% organic components it is one of the best choices you have in the market.

About the Author:

Nothing beats a good ol’ fashioned mop and bucket.

mop-bucketBack in the day, I worked for a couple different cleaning companies. I used to do everything from general cleaning to resurfacing floors to smoke and water damage restoration. Needles to say I have a lot of cleaning experience.

In the past couple decades they have pretty much advanced on all areas of cleaning supplies and products, with few exceptions. I will tell you that one thing they have never been able to improve upon yet is the good ol’ mop and bucket. I try almost all the new products that come out in an effort to cut my time cleaning and cost of cleaning (the one thing most of us don’t have is time). I have yet to find anything else that will clean any surface you give it, do a great job, and be able to do it again without having to buy replacement parts.

Here is an example, in my home I have tile floors, hardwood floors and a rubber/foam floor in my living room for my kids. I can clean them all with a little pine sol and my trusty mop, no other product can do that. Now I will say you can’t go buy a 5 dollar mop from your local grocery store and expect it to work. I spent about $50 on my mop and bucket, it looks like something you would see a janitor using (big yellow bucket and strainer and a big blue cotton/polyester blend mophead).

I know you can buy a couple swiffers for $50 dollars but I am still using the same mop and bucket I bought 7 years ago. When the mophead starts getting bad just throw it in the washing machine and its good as new. They do wear out but it takes quite a while and then you only need to buy a new head($10), overall much cheaper than anything else I have seen or used, and like I said it cleans all surfaces. I dare you to put it up against another product and get a better result for the money.

Tips for Parents to Get Baby to Sleep through the Night

by Liz Wiseman

If you are a new parent you are probably asking yourself the same question asked by parents since the dawn of time. How to get baby to fall asleep, and stay asleep long enough to get some rest yourself?

Unfortunately you can’t anticipate when this is going to happen as you often can with other milestones in your baby’s life. You have a rough idea when you should expect her first smile, when solid foods should be introduced and when baby will be able to sit up unassisted. The one thing nobody can tell you with any accuracy is when you expect your child to give you that first good night’s sleep.

Starting to developing healthy sleep habits is a very important step, and should be started from day one. There is of course an initial period of learning baby’s signs, but it won’t take long at all before you will recognize and know the different signals she displays before it’s time for bed.

Once baby reaches about two weeks of age, it’s time to start helping her to distinguish the difference between day and night. This is the first step to begin developing her sleep schedule. During daytime hours, take advantage of play time or singing using your normal tone of voice. Don’t stop yourself from daytime tasks. Baby needs to distinguish and grow accustomed to the variety of noises around him during the day.

When your baby wakes during the night, it’s time to reverse the routine. Minimal lighting, noise and other stimuli are necessary to teach baby that it’s quiet time during the night. When he wakes for a feed, try not talking very much or being too animated and playful. He will soon realize daytime is for being awake and play; night is for sleeping and quiet.

Routines surrounding bedtime also play their part in parents getting a bit more shut-eye. When possible try to reserve bath time until just before bed. The warm water with soothe your little one, as well as the other parts of bath time rituals. However, if your baby is getting excited or upset during bath time, it is best left as a morning ritual. We are aiming at a calming experience that will facilitate bedtime. Use this time to play some soft music or to start a new routine of family bedtime stories.

Even when you are trying to establish a routine, when it comes to calming themselves many babies have challenges falling asleep. There are many opinions on the easiest way to help baby overcome these challenges.

One technique you can try once baby reaches about 6 weeks old is the crying down method. After making sure that she is not hungry, or any other possible issue that needs your attention, try letting her cry for a bit until she calms on her own. The initial amount of time for this is normally 5-10 minutes, but in the event that she is over-tired or over-excited it could take longer. Be prepared to wait up to 20 minutes for her to finally drift off into dreamland. If the crying persists and you have trouble ignoring it, try and wait 5-10 minutes before returning to her room. Keep the same procedure in motion until your baby quietly and calmly falls asleep on her own.

If the thought of letting your little one cry himself out, some other techniques are available to you. For example, you may prefer to watch and wait for the signs indicating clearly to you when baby is ready to fall asleep, but this may result in different bedtimes from one night to the next. Other parents may opt for lying down next to baby while gently touching and talking to them in order to provide baby with added comfort. Over time the parent moves a little further away, providing a little less interaction until baby can fall asleep without having a parent near them.

No matter what way you choose to approach it, babies are precious to their parents, but sleep is needed to properly care for them. With some handy tips and a lot of patience a pattern will eventually allow everyone to get a good night’s sleep.

Staying Positive: Help from a Gratitude Bracelet

by Deanna Collins

With all of the ups and downs wreaking havoc in our lives, it’s easy for problems in life to get us bogged down. There are two options available to us when times are rough. We let circumstances take over any motivation we have, and claim defeat before we even get started, or we can grasp the challenge by the hand and run with it. Even when the odds seem to be completely against us, with the help of a gratitude bracelet we can go one step further to a positive outlook.

Importance of Gratitude

It’s a fact that there is always somebody worse off then us. That might seem like small consolation when life seems to be going along poorly, but recognizing the blessings that we enjoy is a small but powerful step towards cultivating a positive outlook.

Viewing things objectively by detaching ourselves can often be a quite difficult task. Any pessimistic thoughts or attitudes towards a given situation are only likely to compound the problem. Consider the situation of someone with a depressive illness; by the illness causing situations to appear far worse than they actually are, and other subsequent events needing to be dealt with are often interpreted in negative terms as well. This is where the downward spiral can begin.

A pessimistic attitude can be appropriate in certain situations. Finding a balance and seeking for ways to keep perceptions and reactions in their rightful place is the key to ensuring misplaced optimism or denial does not evolve into situations as damaging as any negative attitude. The most important focus point regarding our experiences and the counterbalance is as important as gratitude itself.

Do I Have That Much To Be Grateful For?

Many of us don’t even come close to recognizing the many things we have to be grateful for. If people don’t count their blessings in life, it is quite easy to take the positive aspects for granted. By keeping a journal of things to be grateful for has been proven as an effective tool to enhance the happiness we feel. By keeping a record of the many things we can be grateful about on a daily basis could include such things as an appreciation of our friends and family, the journaling of our children’s milestones or anything else you are grateful for. By searching for and documenting the positives in your life, it can be quite amazing to see how long the list is of times or things that deserve their own gratitude.

Gratitude Bracelets and a Positive Attitude

The key to using gratitude as a tool for maintaining a positive attitude is regular reinforcement. Gratitude journals work by reminding ourselves on a daily basis of the good things in our lives. A gratitude bracelet can work in a similar way. Every time you put it on, take it off or look at it during the day, it can remind you of the many reasons you have to be happy – no matter how many you have to be discontented.

Your choice of gratitude bracelet could be dependant on many different ideals. It could be as simple as a general reminder you have many positive things in your life. It can also be as complex as finding one symbolizing some of the many things that enrich your life on a daily basis. You can choose a color that reminds you of your favorite part of nature, or a color that makes you think about that particular look in a loved ones eyes.

The possibilities are endless. Once you have made the association, you will be reminded of the positive things in your life every time you see or touch it. Give a bracelet as a gift and the receiver will remember you, and other loved ones, with gratitude. A gratitude bracelet can remind you of all the beauty there is in the world.

Review:Simply the Best Makeup Remover Pads

The makers of Styli-Style beauty products have struck gold in my book again.  I am in love with their team of inventors.

I’m already a faithful user of several of their eyeliners and eyeshadows.  I found myself in need of a QUICK and great eye makeup remover.

I was surprised to find Styli-Style’s “Simply the Best Makeup Remover Pads” for sale one aisle over.  I had never seen them before and would have bought them sooner if they were more obviously located.  It was under $10 for a generous amount (50!) of makeup remover pads.

These pads are meant to remove any kind of makeup, regular, waterproof, etc.  I found this useful as I wear a wide range of cosmetics from regular to mineral and also waterproof.  These pads took it all off, did not feel greasy and left my skin very soft.

So far I’ve had no breakouts as a result of using these pads.  Definitely a great buy and a wonderful precursor to the rest of my nighttime beauty regimen.

Make Money with a Recipe Blog

by Nicole Dean

Around the world, people everywhere are discovering that blogging is a great way to make money online. The reason? Blogs can usually be set up at a low cost and started with a minimum of experience. Two very popular tools for blogging are Google Blogger (blogger.com) or the easy to use WordPress (WordPress.org). Both make it easy to set up a blog. But what kind of blog should you start?

A recipe blog can be the perfect choice for people who have tried recipes and thought they could do something different, more exciting, or just plain better. It’s a great way to tell others about new recipes, ideas, and products available in the world of cooking, as well as sharing regional specialties. But, don’t worry if you can’t cook. You can write a cooking blog for others who are learning to cook. How much fun would it be to share your successes as well as your “hope you don’t chip a tooth” muffins? Starting a recipe blog can be a wonderful way to share your interest and make money in the process. If cooking is your passion (or even if it isn’t) — a recipe blog may be a profitable way to get a taste of online business.

There are some simple skills required to start blogging about cooking. Of course, you have to enjoy cooking. You don’t have to be a chef, just have an interest in food. You’ll want to be able to organize your thoughts, and get your recipes in some sort of understandable order so people can follow along. If you have a digital camera, you’ll be able to include pictures of the dishes you make, but that is not absolutely necessary. There are many publicly licensed food photos on the internet for you to use. The main skill you’ll need is patience. You won’t see a lot of traffic to your blog at first, but don’t worry. It takes time for people to find out how great your blog is.

There are several ways you can turn your recipes and cooking blog into a money-making business. You can choose just one of these options or do a mix of them. Here are some ideas…

Make Money by Selling Products: A person who loves to cook, often loves all the kitchen paraphernalia that comes along with it. If you have gadgets and cookbooks available to purchase on your blog, you can reap the rewards that the retail markets are enjoying. You can share your recipes, cooking tips, opinions, and sell products all at the same time. Nice little income producing idea.

Make Money by Selling Advertising: Popular blogs that have a substantial amount of website traffic can earn income through advertising. Of course you can’t sell advertising until your blog actually has readers, but many bloggers earn a great income with this method alone.

Make Money by Selling Your Blog: Successful bloggers, those whose readership has grown enough to be noticed by the search engines and/or media, can even sell their blogs to others and earn an income. Popular topics in high-traffic websites will get your name and your blog noticed, remembered, and visited. Some people create blogs just to sell them, in fact, so this is another idea to keep in mind.

By focusing your energy on your own unique style of blog, you can find a home for family recipes, regional dishes, cooking disasters and fun stories that your readers will come back to time and time again. Sharing your knowledge of cooking, your recipes, your successes and failures, all can bring in a nice income if you are ready to learn how. But, you’ve got to take that first step in order to see your dreams come true.
