Eco Friendly Alternative to Swiffer Mop Refills

The Swiffer and other similar products like the Clorox Ready Mop floor cleaning systems are convenient. However the refills are expensive and hardly environmentally friendly. They are also not non-toxic.
I know personally, every time I’ve used a Swiffer wet pad at someone else’s home, I’ve gotten a headache. They have a very strong odor that makes me uncomfortable. The dry pad refills are also pricey and I don’t like the disposable aspect either.
I was so glad to find these microfiber pads to use as an alternatives. I love microfiber and use it all the time around my house: for mopping, dusting, all my cleaning actually. These microfiber cloths fit perfectly into the disposable mopping systems mops. The price is right too.
I love that I can wash and reuse microfiber a thousand times before it loses its absorbency. Microfiber is highly attracted to dust, in fact it works better than the disposable Swiffer dry pads. It’s even antibacterial. Studies have shown that microfiber lowers the bacterial count of a surface by 99% - because it’s so absorbent.

Hey Carrie,
Have you seen any alternatives to the wet refills? I don’t use the dry ones, but admit with our filthy family room floor (2 dogs, 2 boys in and out all day), I just don’t have the energy to drag the mop out twice per day.
These are a replacement for the wet pads. Of course you would have to use your own cleaning product to avoid using the Swiffer stuff. Although I have heard of people “hacking” their WetJets, might be worth a Google search.
I don’t know what made me think dry yesterday. I noticed you said “mop”, but then you said “dry” part way down.
So you just wet these with water? I’ve had micro-fiber cloths before. They do work well.
Water is all that’s required, but if you have some bad spots you can use a tiny spray of whatever you else elsewhere to clean your floors.
I like the Clorox CleanWorks line - I buy the bulk the all purpose cleaner and dilute it in my own containers. I have laminate floors and if they get grubby from not mopping them frequently enough, a spray of that takes care of it.
