Losing your cell phone can be devastating! If you are anything like me, you’d be lost without it even for a day. Not to mention, the cost of replacing it and the inconvenience of losing pictures, downloads and your contact list.
I’ve compiled a list of hints to help you to NOT lose your phone. Hope they help you as much as they’ve helped me!
- Keep your cell phone in the same pocket of your clothes. Get used to it being there and you’ll feel weird if it is suddenly not there!
- Get a handy-dandy cell phone carrier. They make them now in very stylish and cool colors and styles. They have ones that clip on to your clothing and ones that hang around your neck among others. Check out Accessory Geeks.
- Always do a “cell phone check” before leaving somewhere. Get used to doing this just like you would with a purse or wallet. It will save you panicking and driving back where you’ve been.
- Don’t get in the habit of holding it in your hand when not using it. This is a set-up for laying it down and forgetting it.
- If you have a car charger, which you should, keep your phone plugged into it instead of laying in your lap. I don’t know how many times I have dropped mine on the ground getting out of my car.
- Check to see if your cell phone provider offers a back-up service for the data on your phone. This is a just in case, but necessary if the worst should happen. Also, this is handy should you upgrade your phone.
- Consider not taking your phone into places like concerts or very congested areas where you won’t be able to hear or be inclined to use them anyway. They are too easy to be stolen from your pocket or dropped. Even a case can be thieved in a place like this and you might not notice until it is too late.
- Keep your phone in the same place all the time in your house if it isn’t on you. They have the most efficient and adorable cell phone caddies now. This will save you searching your house frantically which can be quite frustrating even if the loss is temporary.
- Don’t let your kids play with your phone. You never know where it will end up. I’ve seen so many parents letting toddlers in strollers play with their phones and then dropping them. Even older children are likely to lay your phone down when something else captures their attention.
- Finally, there is a wonderful service you should get NOW while you have your phone in your hot little hands. It is called Track It Back. Track It Back is a lost and found recovery service for electronic devices including cell phones, laptops, cameras, etc. This service costs a one time fee of 9.95 per item/label which you place on your phone. You also register your item on their website. It prompts the finder of your phone to call Track It Back and they are offered a reward to return your phone (all the arrangements for safe return are handled by Track It Back). All finders receive a Track It Back gift pack for their honesty. You also have the option to offer them a reward!
I hope these tips help you to keep hold of that precious cell phone.

I found myself nodding in agreement the whole way through this post!
I have the habit of cell phone check and keeping it in the same place when I’m home.
I’d like to re-emphasize your point on NOT letting your children play with the phone. I know people that lost their phone just that way. We don’t hand them the cordless house phone to play with. Why let them play with the cell phone?!
Such great tips and I had NO idea about Track it Back!!! My girls are notorious for getting my cell phone out and playing with it and I have found that they can actually call people!!! They aren’t supposed to play with it – and now, more often than not – I carry it in my pants pocket so I have it handy! Great tips here!
I wish there was a list like this on how to not lose my purse!
Now that I might be getting the new iPhone, I will have to make sure I don’t lose it. Definitely getting a carrier and my son will NOT be playing with it like he plays with my current phone. Keeping it plugged in at all times, while not in use, is an excellent idea, too. And the Track It Back may just be worth it for an iPhone. Thanks!
I love it! My other big problem is letting my battery die at the worst possible time.
Great tips! I always had problem loosing my cell phone.
