ModelThis is not a new video, but one worth sharing. It’s part of the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty and illustrates just how distorted reality is in the world of fashion, beauty and modeling. Watch - it definitely carries a strong message.

Wow. That’s powerful stuff. I used to read a lot of fashion and beauty magazines when I was a young teen, and I’m convinced it led me to a lot of issues with body image and self esteem. Now, I’ve read there are studies that prove a correlation between how many magazines like that a young girls reads and eating disorders. I don’t have an eating disorder, but it’s enough to make me wonder how I’m going to feel about my daughter reading those types of magazines. I don’t know if I should ban them entirely, but I will certainly keep an open dialogue with my girls about this type of thing, and the impact looking at these images has on us as women.
