Did you know that some women are preparing and ingesting their placentas? You can find recipes for placenta smoothie, placenta pizza… some women cook it up in a stew. Dried placenta has been a traditional remedy in Chinese medicine for centuries.
While the practice might seem repulsive to some, it apparently has several important benefits. For one, increased milk production, sense of well-being and avoidance of postnatal depression.
My guest today, Jodi Selander, has a more tasteful option. She dries and encapsulates the placenta for ingestion. Learn more about placenta encapsulation at Natural Moms Talk Radio.

I did see my cat eat her placenta after delivering her kittens, so I imagine it’s a very natural thing…but ummm…no…I’ll stick with mushrooms on my pizza!
I agree with Alice. Yes, having grown up on a farm, I have seen animals eat the placenta. As for me, I will take ham & mushroom pizza, or banana smoothie.
I would do it, esp for the chance to avoid post partum depression. It’s really just another form of meat. It’s less nasty than shellfish in my opinion.
