As much as you would love to book a family vacation this summer, perhaps the budget doesn’t seem to allow for this added expense.
The good news is that you can have just as much fun staying at home this summer, by discovering new and exciting places to visit in your city and state that you may not have had the opportunity to visit before.
Here’s an example. Let’s assume you live in Manhattan. Well, you can plan to spend a day at any one of the dozens of museums there. Go to matinees, visit the South Street Seaport, take a drive to a petting zoo on Long Island, or walk along Fifth Avenue on any given day and find new and exciting venues to visit.
Perhaps where you live there are free concerts, amusement parks, botanical gardens, and the like. Maybe there are historical sites you have not seen, or daily tours you can take within your own city.
If you enjoy walking as part of your exercise regimen, perhaps you usually only take one particular route in your neighborhood? Why not explore other areas of your neighborhood as well? You never know what you may find.
There are other activities that may be going on during the summer months. You can easily check online by going to your city’s tourism site or Chamber of Commerce. There you may find fairs and festivals, arts and crafts, performing arts, and information on local events.
The advantage of staying home is that you can stick to your family budget while, at the same time, embark on daily adventures that are either free or very affordable. Moreover, you don’t have to spend a fortune on flights, hotel accommodations, meals, and other incidental expenses.
You can have barbecues in your back yard, celebrate the Fourth of July with friends, and enjoy every moment you and your family have together. Have a movie night, game night, and an array of activities planned for the entire family.
There is so much to see and do in our own neck of the woods that we sometimes forget the best vacation isn’t always one where we have to “travel” somewhere – we can have just as much fun and adventure in our own back yards.
