This month we had our third annual rodeo and the turnout was less than spectacular. The economy had a bit to do with that but I don’t understand why there isn’t a better turnout for such a great local event.
The rodeo is great, I went the first two years and couldn’t this year because I didn’t have anyone to watch my quadruplets. I didn’t think the rodeo was a good choice for them to sit thru in the hot sun but my oldest daughter loves it. They have professional bull riders and fighters as well as other events for all ages and are good cheap fun for two days with the family. I even built the website and maintain it for them for free to show my support for my community.
I love it when small towns put on fun things for families to do together, whether it is a rodeo or festival celebrating a local achievement. Every year I see fewer and fewer and less support for the ones that are still going. Some of my fondest memories growing up are from events like these and I think we need these to keep our communities together. Some of my neighbors are more like family to me than my real family and one of the best ways to meet them is large gatherings like these. I just wish people would slow down and take time to participate in local events.
