Produce Your Own Invitations For Free At Home

Throwing a shower for an upcoming wedding or baby shower is a fun event, but it can be very expensive.

One of the biggest costs are the invitations that get sent out and more and more people are turning to the internet to find free invitations templates that they can download and print from the home computer. With a little research and creativity and the right materials, you can save money on great invitations.

Find Invitations Online

Take a moment to do a little research online to find websites with many different invitation card options. There will be many different to choose so you can find the invite that works perfectly for your occasion and some of the are completely free. Regardless, you can definitely save money if you print them out at home.

By saving so much money with creating your own invites instead of having them professionally done, you will be able to really stretch your budget for the party and focus on other fun parts. Also the actual decision making and creation of the cards can be an event for the friends and family involved that brings everyone together and makes them a part of the party planning.

Quality Photo Paper And Ink Is Important

In order to really make the self published cards look their best, it is important that you use high quality photo paper and ink because no matter how pretty the design of your invite is there is no way to create the perfect card if the print doesnt come out right on the printer. Printers are another important aspect of using the right products, but even basic printers these days do a good job of providing a broad range of colors and clear prints.

Paper is one of the most important things when it comes creating a quality invite for your shower. A thick, professional paper that absorbs the ink without smudging is essential to being satisfied with the final product.

Photo paper to consider for your invites would be matte or canvas like to create a look that matches professional quality. With matte paper you can have a satin like finish similar to magazine pages in terms of clarity and boldness in color. For an older look, like your invites are from a previous era, canvas like photo paper is perfect.

Wedding shower and baby shower invitations do not have to eat up most of your budget if you do a little research and print your own invites from home. With a little creativity and good paper, you can make your own professional invites at a fraction of the cost.

Beginner Cross Stitching – What Cross Stitch Supplies Will You Need

When you are searching for a new hobby, cross-stitching may be just what you will enjoy. Many cross-stitch enthusiasts make profits by selling their finished projects at various flea markets and craft shows. Other individuals take joy in making special gifts for others, such as family and friends.

Learning to cross stitch is extremely easy and it is very affordable as well. With so many different hobbies out there that require hundreds of dollars just to get started, it is nice to find that there is something fun and entertaining that does not cost much at all. There are very few cross stitch supplies that are needed which means you could probably go pick everything up today and start right away.

Basic supplies are easy to find and affordable to you. The first thing you will need is a graph. The cross-stitch graph is the pattern or design you wish to make for your project. They are not so expensive. You can choose from a vast selection. Finding just the right one can sometimes be hard, since there are so many beautiful patterns from which to choose.

Even weave fabric, should be next on your shopping list. This fabric is commonly useful for all cross-stitch projects. The weave of the fabric allows you to follow a line, so you always know where you should place your cross-stitch needle. Even weave fabric will unravel, therefore before you begin, you really should sew around its edges to keep it secure.

You will also require the use of a needle to work your magic of cross-stitching. There are two sizes for you to consider, you will need either a size 24-tapestry needle or a size 26-tapestry needle. The number 26 needle is actually the smaller of the two sizes. If you look closely at your tapestry needle you will see that it has a blunt point and a large eye.

Embroidery floss is another item that you will include on your list of cross-stitch supplies. Embroidery floss is cotton thread. It has six strands of thread within each piece of floss. For most projects, you will use only two strands of floss. However, other projects may call for the use of one or even three strands of floss to complete the project. Anchor and DMC are two of the leading brands of embroidery floss. They are most commonly recommendable for use in the directions in the graph when working on a cross-stitch project.

The Embroidery loop is something that cannot be forgotten. This loop is made of plastic or wood and comes in various sizes. You will base the size you need based on the size of the area you are cross stitching. Keep the fabric tight within the loop while you are working on it but make sure that you are removing it if you are taking a break from the project. This will prevent hoop marks from forming.

Finally, you will require the use of a good pair of scissors to keep on hand while you cross-stitch. You can use any type of good cutting scissors when you are on a tight budget. However, it is best to invest in a pair of small embroidery scissors. Remember, the better quality of scissors and other materials you use for cross-stitching, the better results you can achieve with this craft.

Moms Getting More Done With Positive Thinking

postiveby Deanna Collins

Few are the people who accomplish juggling and multi-tasking daily. Oh sure, it’s easy enough on a good day when all is right as rain, but add children to the mix and you have just gained the unexpected complications of life with kids. When tired and weary, mothers may just take one look at the laundry pile in front of the washing machine, or the list of ‘who needs to be where and when?’ finding themselves in a state of wonder, thinking ‘what’s the point’?

Positive thinking is an attitude all busy moms can develop – not just to get through the day, but to make it more pleasurable and productive. Psychologists and physiologists have long known that negative thoughts impact on the body as well as the mind. If you already feel overloaded, just contemplating that pile of laundry may make you feel exhausted.

Substitution of Positive Thoughts

Your busy days can be worked through with a positive attitude in respect to the way you react to all aspects of them. It’s an option you make to sink into the sofa feeling helpless, just as it’s an option to motivate yourself to getting things done, and reaping the benefits afterwards. In the cultivation of a ‘can-do’ attitude you may find yourself having to work at it a little harder in the beginning, but soon enough it will be easier to deal with your new positive outlook.

While some people are predisposed to either optimism or pessimism, this act of negative thinking is often a learned attitude that can unlearned with some work. Start identifying any of your patterns towards either negative or possible thinking. If one or more of the following examples are easy for you to identify with, you may have just found your starting point to working this out.

Overlooking the positive: By neglecting all of those tasks or chores that you have accomplish during the day, can easily and quickly be set aside while you focus on what you haven’t managed to get to. This magnifies the laundry issue, and probably way out of proportion as well.

Self-blame: It may very well be your fault that the chores aren’t completed as scheduled, but berating yourself over it will only magnify the feelings of inadequacy and failure. Many times we must remind ourselves that we are, after all, only human. Taking responsibility for those things which are out of your control will only reinforce those feelings of negativity.

Black, white and nothing in between: If you happen to be prone to ‘all or nothing’ answers or methods of assessing situations, you are amongst the ranks of people setting themselves up for negative thinking. Remember, perfection is rarely attainable.

Cataclysmic thinking: When a person is constantly expecting the worst, or considers a minor setback to be the ‘end-all’ to the entire task or project.

In order to achieve positive thinking means simply taking a step back in order to make realistic assessments. You can put a positive spin on any task with a little effort; even the most mundane. An example could be the paying of household bills. Most of us would rather not have to do this, however if you remind yourself of the pleasures that will come from completing this task, it turns into a positive thought. Be grateful you can soak in the tub at the end of the day. So many don’t have that option

Positive thinking will improve your energy, motivation and efficiency and endow you with contentment and peace of mind.

Perfect Gift Ideas for New Baby

Oh the joy of shopping for a new baby. There’s nothing more fun than helping new parents out by buying adorable items for their brand new little one. Little girl or little boy, it doesn’t matter. There are tons of fantastic, fun, and yes practical items to buy for both new parents and new babies. Here are just a few items to consider.

Fun Items for the Baby

Now a pacifier is definitely a practical item but it can be fun too. Especially when they come with adorable personal sayings on them like:

Born to Shop Lover Boy My Mom Rocks! Princess Little Monster

Bath Buckets are also a joy to give. Many babies just love bath time. Whats more fun than splashing mom and dad and hearing them squeal? You can make it even more fun for the little ones with a delightful green frog or yellow duck bath bucket. Buckets come with a bath mitt, sponge, rubber toy, and a soap dish.

Everyone loves toys and babies are no exception. Give them a toy to grow with like a lovely rocking horse, and they’ll have fun for years to come.

But what about the parents, you might be asking. What can I buy for them? Here are a few practical and fun gift ideas for those new, and not so new, parents.

Fun and Practical Ideas for Parents

Baby slings and carriers are not just all the rage, they’re a very practical tool and provide a newborn baby all the comfort and security they need. Babies like to be held and studies have proven that babies who are carried and held more during the day cry less, bond better with their parents, and learn more about the world around them.

Shopping cart covers are often one of those little luxuries that many parents don’t buy for themselves but long to have. They help keep little ones snuggly in the seat of a grocery shopping cart and they protect babies from all of the nasty germs lingering on the bar of the cart. Babies love to explore and a cover helps keep them safe and healthy.

Baskets and bassinets are great for keeping newborn babies close by. Newborn babies are not usually ready for a crib and the convenience of keeping a baby right near the bed at night is great for those late night feedings. A basket or bassinet is a great gift to ease parents needs, help them get more rest, and ensure a well fed baby!

Both parents and babies will enjoy any one of these practical and fun gift ideas. And they’re fun to shop for! What’s better than that?

Baby Shower Centerpieces: 4 Quick & Cute Ideas

by Sophia C.

The happiest and most exciting day in a couple’s life is when they find out they’re expecting a child. If you’ve decided to host a baby shower for the happy couple, you can create sweet Baby Shower displays and centerpieces with the following four quick and cute ideas:

Diaper Cake This is one of the cutest baby shower centerpieces ever imagined. Using a bag of disposable diapers, you create round “cake” layers by binding together handfuls of the diapers. Then stack the layers into a layer cake shape and attach them together with tape or ribbons. Once you’ve done that, you can add small baby accessories like pacifiers, baby bottles, rattles and small toys all around the sides of the layers or hanging off the sides. Then add a top to the cake with a small stuffed toy, baby bank or balloons. The parents can take the diaper cake home with them at the end of the shower and use all the items for their new baby.

Gift Basket – A large gift basket filled with numerous baby items is always a nice baby shower centerpiece. And the parents-to-be will certainly appreciate that you have provided them with all the necessities for their bundle of joy. Guests can add their own gifts and cards inside the basket. The handle on the basket makes it convenient for the couple to take home the gifts after the party and the basket can be used in their home for other baby supplies and books they will need later on.

Noah’s Ark – This is a favorite for the parents-to-be expecting twins or multiples. Simply find two or more of the same cute stuffed animals and tie them together with helium balloons. You can set them in the center of the table and each stuffed animal becomes a unique baby gift for each child.

Rubber Ducks- A fishbowl filled with various rubber duckies makes a cute centerpiece for the baby shower. Guests, including any siblings-to-be, can take home a rubber duckie as a favor. You can even plan your shower games or door prizes ahead of time by writing a number on their underside. To make it even cuter, you will want to make sure there is a larger “mommy and daddy” duckie in the bowl for the parents-to-be to take home with them to enjoy. An adorable alternative to the glass fishbowl is to fill a baby bathtub half full with water and let the rubber duckies “swim” in the water.

If you’re planning a baby shower, Favors-N-Gifts.com is your source for baby shower favors, perfect for any theme or budget.

Teach Your Baby Sign Language and Find out why She's Crying!

by Gillie Saane

Baby is crying and you’ve done everything! Diaper is dry. She’s not hungry. Aaacckkk!!! Why is your baby crying? If only she could talk to you. That’s silly. Babies don’t talk. They don’t? Sure they do. Babies talk all the time. They just don’t talk in English.

When your baby is screaming at the top of her lungs, her face blue from lack of oxygen intake, and her eyes are bulging out like one of the muppets, you think, just maybe, it’s because she’s trying to tell you something? Good guess. Her tears are from utter frustration because even though she’s making more noise than a rock concert, she thinks you can’t hear her! If you were listening you’d help her!

Ah. What we have here is a basic failure to communicate. Two entirely different languages are being spoken here, and you don’t happen to have a U.N. interpreter. You speak English and your baby speaks Bbbfflltt!

What if you could speak to her in a language she understands — and she could talk back in that same language? Why not teach your baby sign language?

Teach my baby sign language? Now there’s a bright idea. Okay. Let me see, maybe I can squeeze it in between her chemical engineering class and her opera lesson. Thanks for the advice, and I’ll see ya later.

Hold on there, mom of the year. Wendy Jensen says — Yes! Yes you can teach your baby sign language! She knows because she’s done it (well, she taught her babies, not yours). And she’s taught other parents (successfully, by the way) to teach their babies, too.

Well of course you’re skeptical — but I’m telling you that she did it. In fact not just Wendy, but thousands of other moms out there. And these weren’t Harvard graduates we’re talking about. In fact, many of them didn’t even graduate Cal State Fullerton (or even attend any school in the Cal State system). Truth be known, they aren’t any brighter than any other of the mommies out there. And probably nowhere near as bright as you. (You’re reading this, aren’t you? Smart girl!)

Okay. Now if that weren’t enough, there are still MORE benefits from teaching your baby sign language.

Here’s the first BIG benefit. From now on, little Gretchen will no longer have to scream at the top of her lungs because she wants you to know her toe, on the foot which she just removed from her mouth, hurts like heck because she just bit it with her new tooth. Now she can let you know in signs!

And hold on there, mama, there are side benefits, too. Long lasting ones.

Young kids develop better language skills when they have learned sign language as a baby. Kids don’t have to have hearing impairment to be helped. They are helped because they learn to communicate better. They will be much more interested in the world around them. Now who would have guessed that? But it’s true.

It works out this way, perhaps, for the following reasons:

All little kids are mimics. Little girls want to wear lipstick and little boys want to shave (we hope for your sake it is not the other way around). When a child learns sign language they begin mimicking their parents at an earlier age. So they start younger doing adult things.

And If you are going to be a mimic, first you have to be a quick-study. You can’t dance like Britney without first watching (studying) Britney dance. Pretty logical. Therefore, signing develops attention skills. Kids study the person signing in order to “hear and understand” This keeps kids focused and their little mushy brains working full speed to keep up. And they love it!

Teaching your kids sign language is fun. Kids think they are playing an action game (side point: kids love action games!) because signing takes action.

Now just imagine this from your little moppet’s point of view: instead of mom and dad telling her to shush (kids hate to shush), or dumping her back in the play pen, (kids hate to be dumped back in the play pen) her parents are giving her a whole bunch of positive attention!

Will your little darling get a full paid scholastic scholarship to Columbia if you teach her sign language. Probably. Well, actually, maybe. Anyway, she will be heads and knees above the other kids because you provided her with a very basic skill set. And you taught her that learning can be fun. Give a baby a fish and she eats tonight. Teach your baby to fish and she eats for a lifetime. Get it? It’s simple. Teach your baby sign language and she will benefit for her whole life.

Wearing Your Baby is Healthy for Both Baby and Mom

by Katie Wilber

No doubt about it, babies love to be held. Unfortunately arms get tired and as busy parents know, arms have things to do. That means holding your baby all day long is a near impossibility. Or is it? Baby wearing was designed to not only give babies the attention and security they crave, it also gives parents the freedom they need.

Baby Wearing Defined

Baby wearing is the practice of wearing or carrying a baby in a carrier ” most often a sling. Baby wearing is part of the attachment parenting philosophy which believes that a strong emotional bond with parents during childhood is a precursor of secure, empathic relationships in adulthood. While baby wearing is a factor in the attachment parenting philosophy, parents don’t have to adopt the philosophy to practice or receive the benefits of baby wearing.

Baby Wearing Benefits

Less crying. Science has proven that babies who are held cry less. That’s not just a benefit for busy parents; it’s a benefit for babies. Their needs are met and they’re happier.

The world is an open book. Babies who are worn learn more about the world at a younger age. When they feel safe and secure being held close to their parents, they feel more at ease pay attention to the world around them.

Multi-tasking. Baby wearing is the single best way to keep your baby safe and secure in your arms while at the same time being able to take care of all those daily tasks which require both hands.

Safe sleeping position and less risk of misshapen heads. Wearing your baby provides them a safe sleeping position, much like the pediatric association recommended position, which helps prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. However unlike sleeping on their back, the recommended position, sleeping in a baby carrier doesn’t put pressure on the back of their soft heads. The result is a baby who is much less likely to develop that telltale flat spot on the back of their head.

Mothers are less likely to suffer from postpartum depression. It is theorized that contact with the baby increases a mothers progesterone levels. This increase strengthens the bond between mother and baby.

Baby wearing moms are afforded private and comfortable breastfeeding whenever and wherever Babies often need to be fed in the most inconvenient of times and places. A baby carrier or sling enables the mother to feed their baby with all the comfort and privacy they need. Additionally, the job can be accomplished hands free.

Not all baby wearers are created equal. Make sure the baby carrier or sling you invest in is a safe one which allows for proper support and positioning. Used correctly a baby wearer provides busy parents the ability to both bond with their baby as well as get things done and babies grow up feeling safe and secure.

Get into baby wearing in comfort and style. Kate Marie Wilber is the owner of Barefoot Bella Children’s Boutique, your premium source for baby carriers, slings, girls & boys clothing, accessories, furniture and more. Visit www.BarefootBella.net for the perfect baby sling for you.

Time Management Guidelines for Working Mothers

Most mothers have a dual life; they manage a full time job and also manage their house and children. This can be overwhelming at times but a few pointers can help these busy mothers to ease their burdens and be stress free.

1. Preplanned Menus- Make weekly menus and grocery items needed; pre-make dishes you will use throughout the week. This alleviate some of the pressure at mealtime.

2. Prepare Meals in Advance - Cook two or three meals at a time; serve one, freeze the others. It’s really no harder to cook a double portion of the same dish and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you already have another meal or two ready to eat!

3. Community Meal Rotations - The mothers in the rotation group take turns making the evening meals during the week. It is possible to cut cooking time to one night a week although you will be preparing for a larger number of people.

4. Errands - Direct some energy to doing errands on the way to or from work. Or if someone in your family or a neighbor is already out, ask them to do your pickup for you and you can return the favor for them.

5. Car pooling is a great time saver. All you need to do is get the moms of the neighborhood involved.

6. Get your family to help: Every one needs to pitch in for successful time management. If your children are keeping their rooms clean then it means less work for you and possibly a reward for them.

7. Split the housecleaning chores into small tasks that can be managed on a day-to-day basis so that it doesn’t overwhelm you. You will find that by doing this you have more time for other things.

8. Be Realistic - There is no such thing as supermom or perfect mom. Learn to say ‘no’ or you will never find a way to manage your time.

Gifts From Your Heart – Homemade Chocolate Dipped Coffee Spoons

Whether you’re trying to find your babysitter a Christmas gift, or your sister a little Valentine’s Day gift, or your child’s teacher a Thank You gift, there are times when you have to come up with an idea that won’t break your budget. If your family is like most, your finances are bleak and gift giving is one luxury you can’t afford anymore.

Normally when people are struggling with a tight budget, things that are considered unnecessary are the first things to go. Gifts are often the first things to be cut out of our budget, but we never feel good about that. We want to show our love for the people we care about, and who care about us, by giving gifts. How do we accomplish that with limited funds? By using our creativity and giving a gift that we put our heart into.

Making chocolate treats is one of my favorite gift ideas. It’s pretty simple to impress someone with a beautiful box of chocolate covered pecans or chocolate dipped pretzels. Chocolates always seem festive, and homemade chocolates say you appreciate someone very, very, much indeed.

Making chocolate treats isn’t as difficult as it may seem. You’ll need just a few simple supplies, a little practice, and you’re on your way. Once you get good a making a few treats, your family and friends will look for them with great anticipation. This particular chocolate treat is really great because no one will think to make them just for themselves.

Coffee Spoons For The Chocolate Fanatic

This spoon will top your list of all time favorite gifts for the coffee lover. What’s great is that you can give this gift to a man or woman because chocolate knows no limits.

Start with this list of items:

You can either purchase some nice silver spoons from your friendly local thrift shop, or just buy some heavy plastic spoons. I like the silver ones because you can find fancy spoons and sometimes some pretty unusual ones, too. Just wash and dry them before using.

In the baking aisle of your grocery store, you will find milk chocolate coating. This is the chocolate you’ll want to use. Don’t use the Real Chocolate as it is way too fussy and you don’t want to worry about it not turning out right.

If you’d like to add some crushed peppermint candy or other candy sprinkles to your spoons, that’s really pretty, too. You may also look for flavoring oils, like peppermint or amaretto, to really make these spoons fancy.

You’ll need to cover cookie sheets with parchment paper so the spoons won’t stick while cooling. Don’t use waxed paper as the chocolate will stick and you’ll have a mess. Parchment paper can also help the clean up if you’re working on a larger number of spoons.

Each spoon will be wrapped in a clear cellophane candy bag. You’ll find these in a craft store with all the candy making supplies. Also, at the craft store, be sure to pick up some decorative items to tie the bags shut, like ribbon, gift wrap ribbon, raffia, or jute rope.

Follow these simple steps:

Place a large pot of water on stove, bring to boil and turn off heat. Meanwhile, cut your chocolate into small pieces and melt by placing in a small heavy pot inside the larger pot of water that has boiled. When chocolate starts to melt around the edges, remove from hot water and stir with a rubber spatula or big wooden spoon until all the chocolate has melted. Be careful that you don’t splash any of the water from the big pan into the small pan.

When the chocolate is melted down, take a spoon and carefully dip it into the chocolate, hanging on to the handle, and place it on parchment paper on your tray or cookie sheet. Now is the time to add any decorations like sprinkles or crushed peppermints. Then continue dipping each spoon and decorating. When you are done, take your cookie sheet full of spoons and place it in a cold area. You can put them in a freezer or refrigerator but don’t let them stay in there because they will get moist. If you do use the freezer or refrigerator, take them out in just a few minutes and let them totally set up somewhere dry.

When your spoons are all set, place one in your cellophane candy bag and tie shut with some of your ribbon or raffia. You can embellish your ribbon with a little candy cane or anything else that would make your gift package special. You can also package more than one spoon in a candy box for someone who is lucky enough to receive more than one chocolate coated spoon.

That’s all there is! You have just created a one-of-a-kind gift for someone special in your life. Doesn’t that feel great? Your gift didn’t cost a lot of your hard earned money… you gave a creative gift that will be greatly appreciated… a gift from your heart.
