Food CravingsFood cravings plague many adults, especially those who have poor eating habits. These eating habits very often are taught to our children, who will likely suffer from the same cravings we have. But there is a way to fight the food cravings if you learn just a little bit of chemistry (it’s not difficult, honest!)

All of our foods can be categorized as either acidic or alkaline. The number 7 is considered neutral and equals the acidity of water so we basically want to eat a balanced number of acidic and alkaline foods. A ratio of 75% alkaline and 25% acidic foods can eliminate your cravings. As we all know from experience, eating too much of something (too much acidic food or too much alkaline food) can be harmful and will put us out of balance.

Here are some of the biggest acid culprits in our diets that should be eliminated: soda, coffee, corn syrup, sugar, processed foods/junk foods, animal proteins, alcohol, and tobacco. Even the chemicals that are put on our produce and prescription drugs are considered acidic. This acidity ruins our body’s ability to digest properly and to receive the nutrients it so desperately needs.

Even whole grains, which are considered healthy, are considered acidic so don’t over-indulge. The key is to eliminate acid, substitute those foods with healthier, more alkaline alternatives, and to be fully aware of what you put into your body.

Why do we want to be in balance? Increased energy is the biggest benefit. With 95% of adults being too acidic, this acidity level also affects our cells and good intestinal bacteria. When these things become out of balance, we are tired and can get sick. Some believe that some food allergies can be caused by harmful intestinal bacteria.

I loved this show about Alkaline/Acid Foods. It was very informative and Diana just told it like it was supposed to be told.

    OUCH! The truth hurts.

    Hi LaTara!

Thanks for your comments and I’m glad you loved my Podcast!

    – I know, sometimes we have to hear the same thing over and over, in different ways - but the basics of nutrition are still always much the same — eating whole foods, closer to nature, right?!
